Arctic Intros Accelero Twin Turbo 6990 Graphics Card Cooler

Arctic slipped in the latest member in its reputed Accelero Twin Turbo series of graphics card coolers, the Accelero Twin Turbo 6990. As the name suggests, it is tailored for the top of the line AMD Radeon HD 6990 dual-GPU graphics card. The cooler is designed to cool everything on the obverse side of the PCB, that includes the two AMD Cayman GPUs, the VRM, and the bridge chip.

The cooler's design consists of two main heat-pipe fed heatsinks over the two GPUs cooled by 120 mm fans, which are connected by a common base. The main heatsinks maintain contact with the GPUs through cutouts in this base, while other components pass heat on to the base. There is a third central heatsink that relies on the air-flow from the two ventilated heatsinks. In all, the heatsink measures 300 (L) x 138 (W) x 50 (H) mm, and weighs 820 g. It doesn't replace the AMD reference backplate, so PCB bending is checked that way. Backed by a 6-year warranty, the Accelero Twin Turbo 6990 is priced at US $150.

nice, this should ease the sound of a jet engine in your pc, arctic cooling are amazing at getting the noise waaaay done while still improving temps

Took them long enough...there are a lot of retailers (both on and offline) here in the UK that dont stock the 6990 anymore and they havent stocked it since the start of this year

Priced at $150... seems a bit high. But hey if you got the cash for a 6990 then i guess u got the cash for this too.

Given that it appears to be aluminum and not solid copper I would expect a sub $100 price, but I suspect they are gouging to make up for low volume sales.

I have a Twin Turbo Pro for the AMD 5850. It cost me 40 CHF or about $35.-.

Sure there is maybe twice the hardware (450 grams and mine has 2 fans too) but I don't see how they can justify charging nearly 5 times the price.

Maybe 3 times the Twin Turbo Pro for R&D and the fact it's twice as heavy... anyways good luck with sales!

I think you are correct, they can't have much demand at all for these. How many 6990's are out there anyway? It can't be many, and of those I doubt many people will buy this cooler. I wonder if it will fit on a next generation card.

Kind of a shame really this cooler could have been a nice option but it's just priced horribly.

Wow that's nice, never knew the spacing between the 2 gpu's is so big that you can land a Boeing 747 jumbo in between the 2 gpu's. I knew the 6990 cards was big but damn that is insane spacing.

The 50mm that is what 2.5 / 3 pci/-e slots spacing about ?
Can any gamer afford to loose that amount of space ?

Can not see this being practical for xfire unless you have a decent mboard with lots of spacing.
Surely there must be something more practical than this cooler and using less space / less weight ?

I don't know when AC changed hands but something tells me the price jump is most likely due to new management.

I suppose anyone who is really annoyed by the 6990 shhhhhh sound and the heat it disperses would buy this.

I will say this, this AC is more of an air cooled waterblock than anything they produce now. No funny goop for the ram heatsinks, I mean everything gets covered with that plate.

I would like to see this for single GPU cards over what is currently offered!
