I'm looking to get a PS3 for Christmas, but I don't know which versions are backwards compatible with PS2 games. I'd ideally like this version, even if it's one of the old chunky ones

Also is expanding the internal hard drive easy with a PS3?

they are the oldest generation(s) phat, and anywhere you would buy it they would be designated as backwards compatible or "BC".

i think they're hard to find, and most recommendations are just to buy a used ps2 from a local shop for $50 and get a slim, as they are quieter, cooler, less error prone & more stable.

I've got a slim atm
But it would just be convenient to not have to get it from the loft everytime I wanna use it :(
as for the hard drive thing, is it just as easy as changing hard drives on a pc?

sorry, yes it is. just make sure it is empty - as in no partitions, anything.

this page (http://thirdworldgeek.com/is-your-ps3-backward-compatible/) explains which models are compatible

just a brand new 2.5" will work then :)
I'll probably still try and pick up an old version of the PS3 anyway, depending on price. Hopefully I can find one around 120-ish without a hard drive or something :)

Doesn't have to be brand new. Just cannot contain any partitions.

awh how come, is it prone to errors?

I think it's cause that it's a software emulation not hardware along with some games glitching.

wait, I just realized you live in the UK so the only model available in your region with backwards compatibility is the 60GB model (software emulation).

you should buy a PS2 Slim instead.
