Guys, I need a new graphics card.
I have always been a Nvidia guy, for years.
Now, I had a PNY 260GTX XLR8 go bad on me. I tried putting it in the oven but that didn't bring it back.
So, now I need to buy a new card.
The machine I am putting it into is not a gamer system by any stretch.
Although I do use it to play a few games like COD BO on rare occasion, mild settings.
Now my problem is choosing a new card and not spending a lot of money.
I'd like to stay under $200.00. Well under that if possible, but probably not going to happen, right?
What do you recommend?

6870 is certainly a good card to aim for, it will perform about GTX560 non-Ti version.

No, you will not be impressed by coming over to the red side, but at least you will not be disappointed either. You can possibly go down to even 6850, if you don't mind losing a bit more eyecandy for much less (you will be looking at low graphics setting for more demanding games within a year to a year and a half).

If its only COD you plan on playing, then for your pockets sake, get the cheapest card with the best price/perf which would be a 6850 @ ~$160. But then for $20-30 more, you can get the 6870.

Honestly, the 6850 or the 6870 would do fine. Just depends how close to the $200 mark you really want to go. :)

Thanks for the advise. I believe that is a great and fast card that you point out, for a decent price.
But I think I'm going red for the first time in my life.
I have read so many good things about the red side over the years that I want to see for myself now.
I have other machines here that I use also, and they have eVGA GTX460's in them. They are great cards and are more than quick enough for me.
But it's time to experiment I think, and give AMD some of my money.
And for the price I want to spend I can get 2GB GDDR ram. 2 is got to be better than 1, I think.

I'm shopping the egg right now and here's what I found so far. XFX HD-687X-CNFC Radeon HD 6870 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 ... (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150563)

Card on order. I just ordered a XFX HD-687X-CNFC Radeon HD 6870 2GB
Thanks so much for the response, Fourstaff.
I am not too sure about the XFX brand, I read some negatives regarding them...but they were the one who had 2GB cards for the money I wanted to spend.
There were other brands of course but the money they were asking was way out of line for me.

dont worry about XFX, they are a very good brand and all thier GFX cards have double lifetime warranties
