View Full Version : Weird SLI Scaling

I'm playing Saints row 3 and with everything High/2xMSAA I get like 60% gpu usage and 30-40ish fps (unless im looking at the ground or small area).

Now, I thought this was a CPU bottleneck but my CPU is only being used at 60-70%.
Someone even did a benchmark with an i5 2500k with only 2 cores and it came out the same as 4.

It gets weirder. I change ALL the settings to off/low, which for SR3 is pretty bad. I'm talking trilinear filtering, view distance of about 20 feet.
At this point it seems that nothing improves. FPS is still 30-45ish. and guess what, GPU Usage is even lower! it averages around 40% usage each.

Can someone help me figure this out? I've spent a week trying to solve this stuff and can't figure it out.

Rig:
AMD Athlon II X4 3.4Ghz
MSI 870-G45 (Using HyperSLI, x4 card works about 10% harder but doesn't impact performance much.)
AzzaTek Dynamo 650W.
2x2GB G.Skill 10666 RAM @ 1333Mhz.
1920x1080 screen using DVI.
ZOTAC GTX 460 1GB and
EVGA GTX 460 1GB both at 800/1600/1800.
This also happens in other games where I'm not getting 100% GPU usage. the only time I get 100% usage is with either 1 card or with Benchmarks such as 3dmark or furmark.
using 290.36 performance drivers but this problem has existed with all drivers i've tested. 285-290 forceware.

Also in the Nvidia inspector, all my game profiles have Nvidia predefined number of GPUs to use on SLI rendering mode set to SLI_PREDEFINED_GPU_COUNT_FOUR.

I changed this to SLI_PREDEFINED_GPU_COUNT_TWO in Saints Row 3 but it didn't seem to do much. Anyone know why its set to 4?
