There have long been rumors about a possible iPhone. Apple has been planning these for some time, and officially called a Taiwanese contractor to begin building iPhones for them. These iPhones, having the ability to play music, would be a direct competitor to Apples own iPod. Not wanting to be left behind, Microsoft has been rumored to be building a version of the Zune that doubles as a cell phone, and Nokia has confirmed working on a sleek phone/music player.

thats spooky - I was looking at a Sony Erikson Walkman phone advert just yesterday and thinking about how Apple must be considering an iPhone - the days of carrying a cell phone and a separate mp3 player are surely numbered.

Does anyone have a Walkman phone? Can you switch of the phone but still use it as an MP3 player in places you aren't allowed to use phones, e.g. Aircraft, Hospitals etc...

Yes. It's like motorola airplane mode. Use it and it switches it's singal off while leaving the phone on. Though air steward/ess will still ask you to switch it off lol.

About time phones took a more of a step to MP3 players. If someone made a good MP3 phone that had at least 4GB of storage I would get it when I replace my phone. As things stand I put 100 songs that I like most on my phone but use my iPod most of the time.

The W950i has 4GB internal storage apparently - http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pp1_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10391

I think some of their other phones use Memory Sticks as well as internal storage - you can get 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo now ( I have one for my PSP) and apparently 8GB are not far away.

"What does Music only mean in the start-up menu?
In the start-up menu you can select Music only. Instead the phone having full functionality, all the phone's transmitters are turned off to prevent disturbance of sensitive equipment, e.g. in a plane or hospital. You cannot make calls, receive calls or send/receive messages, etc. You can only use the WALKMAN."
