Hi,

I recently got me a Sapphire Radeon 9800SE with a dying fan. The card had also started to show artifacts. I decided to see if I could lose the artifacts by improving cooling. But no amount of fan size increase seemed to help so I finally removed the stock hs. Which was of course glued on. So I heated the hs with a hairdryer an pulled it off, gently. But apparently not too gently, as no less than four caps (think they are caps by the look of them) came off the core with the hs. :( Honestly they couldn't have used more glue even if they had tried. One of the caps was completely engulfed in the goo. And all of them are sufficiently smeared with the glue to make it quite impossible to solder them back. And they seem too small to clean. So, does anybody know the specs of the caps in the R360 core ? The lost components are numbered and circled with red in the attached pic (I used an R350 pic from W1zzard's 9800SE hardmod article.) Also the caps seem to be 0402 or somesuch size and probably only available in lots of thousands, so is it possible to use larger caps with wire legs instead or would the increased size interfere with the chips operation. Thanks.

Why don't you use this as an excuse to get a new GPU.:)

Measure the detached caps with a multimeter?

And btw, are you sure the card is really worth repairing?
;)
