how does it compare to online prices in your area.

I would say its fair, but its performance can be dangerously compared to an 8800gt. The G92 GTS pwns it though but we all know that & you can get one of those off of newegg for a few more bucks after the silly rebate.

Bad deal. Save yourself some cash, and get a 9600GT. Almost the same performance for $40 less. Or, go with a 8800GT for $20 more, and crush that GTS.

Or buy my 8800GTS for 190 shipped in my FS thread. It's a sweet card!:)

Definitely go for a G92, erocker's looks like a fair deal, much better than a G80. 2900s/3870s are faster than a a G80 GTS.
Edit - Oops, my mistake, erocker's is a G80.

well the deal is this is local so no shipping, and the other problem is the board im using right now has reported problems with PCIe 2.0 cards, the Nforce4 implimentation that ECS used on my board seems to hate PCIe 2.0 cards, so its a new board also. And im not looking to spend 300 right now, and a new CPU is in line long before a very fast GPU. Right now my x2 4200 is a bottleneck, to my 8600GTS even id suspect.

Well if thats the case than maybe that would be a solid investment. I personally would try out a g92 first though if possible, and return it if it gives you problems. B/c that would be a far better choice, no matter which g92 it is.

Well, I do have that same board back when I was using a 5400+, it handles the 6400+ as well. I can't remember what gpu I had on it but it was probably a 7900gs if it matters. I did try sticking a 8800GTX on it to see if a cheap board like that could handle a monster like that & it took it fine. I never tried it with a pci-e 2.0 card though. I could try it with my G92 GTS but I'll have to go find it in my storage (may take a while). I don't have a G80 GTS to try it with but it handled the GTX so you should be good to go.

just bargain your mate down a bit to sweeten the deal :D
if bought at the right price a 640mb GTS can be great value for performance.

Agreed, haggle with him! offer him $170-180, see what you can get for it.

The board does freakout alittle with the G92 on it. I get silly unrecognized device errors in vista but its fine once you install the drivers but a G92 does seem like overkill for this system. My 5400+ didn't like it too well. It only got 9.3k in 3dmark @ stock settings.

yeah man at 170 you mayaswell take the GTS, like i said it will be a solid performer.
20 ROPS, 96 shaders and 640mb of ram over a 320-bit bus should keep you gaming for a while.

no more like 150.00. for 170.00 you could buy a 9600 gt which will beat the old 8800 gts 640.

thats true. $200 aussie gets you a stock OC'd 9600GT these days, they really are undervaluing the other cards.

maybe, but i noticed in shader heavy titles the 8800GTS can win, also who said im not gonna oc and maybe voltmod this 8800GTS, he took off the cooler at my request and its the Ultra Revison G80 under there so i have alot of headroom, and the ram he told me isnt refrance either, its rater for 1.1ns.

if its got better than normal rated ram, that adds to the value. a good OCIng G80 can outperform a G92, just please dont forget G92 run a lot colder/quieter, if you're staying air cooling.

well with more shaders and ROPS than the 9600GT, and more/better memory, if you can get the core to 650mhz or more, she should w00p a 9600, and fllyyyy!!

It will beat it by a small margin. On my Gigabyte p35 board/Quad core setups, my scores were about 100 points apart between the 8800GTS 640 and my new 9600GT 512 in favor of the 9600GT (13,550 vs. 13,670). My 8800GTS was clocked to 712/1020, and the 9600GT is currently clocked at 810/1100. I'd personall buy the 9600, since it will only improve with driver updates, and it does run quite a bit cooler than the 8800GTS.
