3870 SubsystemIDs mismatch when flashing to unlocked bios

OK, I'm trying to flash my MSI RX3870 OC with the unlocked ATI bios, so I can clock it up past 862 mhz. However, when I try, I get the "SubsystemIDs mismatch" error, and can't flash it. My question is this. Is it possible to force flash in ATI winflash? If not, is it possible to "unlock" my original bios then flash it?

No force flashing in ATi Winflash. I believe all you need to do is change the ID to your card in RBE.

what is your sub id set to by default? 1002 or 1462

use atiflash and just force flash it.

atiflash -f -p bios.bin its easy. i use atiflash all the time

you have to boot from a usb stick or something like that.

give me a sec, ill upload a bios for you.

force flashing a different sub id, can sometimes be unstable.

Yup, I've bricked my 3870 about 6 times Force flashing in Windows. :banghead:

Do it in DOS with ATIFLASH instead and it's faster and safer.

I was just lucky I had a spare card to boot from and force flash the bricked 3870 to restore it. :eek:

that's odd it's show the right sub id. i you can take screenie of winflash, with the bios loaded. but not saved. i can't open winflash, on my computer to check :banghead:

I get the same thing on my new version of ATiWinFlash (2.0.0.7) where it'll insist the Sub ID is incorrect/different even when it's not.

I just stick to DOS now.

This is the bios that I successfully modded and flashed with RBE/Winflash to 850/1170.

will i would have to say, just force flash it. you might want to have another video card on the side just in case. but i believe you should be fine.

no, just use the bios you gave me. but just flash it in dos (atiflash)

If I'm going to flash to the ATI fixed bios in DOS, do I need to change anything in the subsytem
ID?

The bios I'm currently using is uploaded from tpu, but it is the original bios for the card. I then modded it with RBE (clock and memory speeds). The bios I want to flash it to is the modded ATI bios with the clock speed fix. The subsystem ID on my current bios is 1462, but the ATI modded bios is 1002. So, I shouldn't have any problems flashing it in atiflash DOS, despite different subsystem ID's?

i just pm you:

k, one last check. gpu-z does show 1462 as the sub id? if so, your good to go. if it's 1002, then just change it to 1002 and flash it. I just want to make sure everything looks and goes as smooth as possible.

i thought i would just post this in the thread, if someone else has this problem.

But this is what you want to check for, This a example!!!! But it goes for all cards

Make sure this number matchings, the number inside RBE or any other bios editor.

Ok, there's the problem!!!! Change the sub-id to 1002 in RBE, save bios. And flash the bios. You can use Winflash or Atiflash. It's you choice. Sorry it took me so long to give you a answer. I just like to be sure.

But if it's not working with 1462 sub-id then change it to 1002. See if it accepts it. If not, go back to 1462. And do a force flash. That's the only option you got.

Wrong. YOu need to change the SUBVENDOR ID, not the DEVICE ID. In RBE change the SUBVENDOR ID to 1462 - MSI. The VENDOR ID will be set to 1002 - ATi already in the bios because it's a ATi card...

i was meaning for him to change the sub id to 1002, the id is already set to 1462. But there's a mismatch. Changing it to 1002 won't hurt anything, it will show it as a ATI and not MSI
