Just curious, is there such a thing as Hardware Accelerated Font Smoothing (Font Anti-Aliasing)?

Does any of the ATI or nVidia chipset supports it?

Bob ... if your running XP you can smooth edges of screen fonts through system properties or try turning up the color quality in video properties to it's highest setting...I think that's what you mean ...

What I mean is that is the font smoothing (ClearType/Standard Font Smoothing) is accelerated (processed) by the GPU.. I know how to enable it and my display colour quality is at 32-bits per pixel (I don't hink that affects text quality though).. ;)

Does it matter? I mean, today's procs and vidcards are more than fast enough to run any 2d applications (except for realtime HQ video compression maybe) without having to worry about smoothing the edge of fonts by hardware...

I see.. You mean to say the font smoothing is done by the GPU..?

BTW, if you notice my specs, my CPU is an "ancient" Pentium 3 800MHz.. I wouldn't count that as fast for now...
