Unfortunatley just cooked a 9500 pro during some benchmark loops. The components that have gone are the small chips that reside just behind the VGA connector on the underside of the card. I have compared to another 9500 and other 9700 and these are normally covered by a small heatsink plate. My 9500 pro did not have such a heat plate, I have felt the plate on my other 9500/9700 (have 4 of them) and I am surprised at how hot these plates get. Does this heatsink get hotter during overclocking, is it wise to change the heatpate taking into account how much heat is generated in this area. What does the area of the chip do?

I think you are talking about the ram, if that is so you can put heatsinks on them (Or replace current ones) copper is a good material to make heatsinks out of.

That plate is for power modules, which get very hot...somethimes hotter than core....thats why ATI engineers put the plate there.
