You know how when you buy/build a new computer and install windows, it starts up instantly. For a while I had the bar running across the screen 3/4 times then it went to the welcome screen. Now it goes across maybe 10/12 times and then shows a black screen for 5 seconds before the welcome screen. What's the problem, I haven't really installed anything new, haven't overclocked anything, it just seems slower. However after everything loads I don't see a lag in any games or anything.:confused:

system burn in time maybe? lol. Oh wait, you have cool n quiet enabled, don't you? THAT would do it...it clocks your system down massively. And as far as that windows thing...I haven't noticed. All I had to do was repair my windows install and it booted up just fine. Except for a couple BSOD's before I repaired windows...lol (stuck old windows install in new system)

A few tips:
* Go to folder "C:\Windows\Prefetch\" and delete every file in it
* Download a registry cleaner program like Registry Mechanic, (use google to look for it) to clean old unused registry entries.
* Type "msconfig" at the "Run..." window and press enter, then go to the "startup" tab, disable any non vital programs you find there, you can always enable them back if you need to.
* Defrag your HDD.
Hope that helps :)

and don't forget to run spyware/virus checks. those are things you really take forgranted after a while, until your system randomly craps out/has massive lag.

Already did all of that and more.
Then, I would recommend you reformat your HDD, try to use a differnet partiton for games or programs that you'll be uninstalling on a regular basis

Deleting the prefetch folder doesnt do anything, it has been proven. Windows manages those files by itself, keeping the top 100 most used exe's in it I think. Even if you delete them, windows restores them on next reboot.
