Today I was thinking that LCD monitors- TN, IPS and VA all have advantages and disadvantages over one another. No matter how much we pay, no monitor is absolutely perfect. However I have no idea why AMOLED technology is not implemented in monitors. Also now-a-days, smartphones and tablets display are much more looked upon than monitors. We see smartphones with ppi over 260 and with infinite contrast ratio also with absolute blacks and absolute whites. But we never bother to check the ppi of a monitor which is very low. My question is why are the new technologies especially AMOLED not implemented in today's monitors? I was searching the internet and it seems even IPS panels have backlight leakage viewable at a certain angle. Your opinions please....

Plus I like to play with my new stuff when I buy it, I have had a core i7 920, 860, 760, 2x 2500k and now a 3570k and I know Intel processors through and through (to an extent) and going to AMD would present me with a new learning curve again and give me that "new" feeling again.

Do you think it would be worth it for or against?

Hi,

I've recently built a desktop PC for my home to the following specs (same as in the drop down menu to the left under my name)

CPU: AMD Piledriver FX6 3.6GHz
MOBO: Gigabyte G8-7LMT-S2P
RAM: Corsair 2 x 2GB of 1333MHz DDR3
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6450
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 500Gb
PSU: Novatech 750W

O/S: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit

Ever since I first built the machine, the boot time (from power on to desktop appearing and all startup programs like firewall etc being ready) has been around 1m30s. From what I've heard - perhaps wrongly - is that with these specs I should be expecting things to be a little faster than that. So, I set out and started removing programs from the start up section of msconfig with no significant change to the boot time. I turned off all the extra shiny bits in windows, like the aero theme - no change still. I've updated the BIOS, run malware/spyware/virus scans and still nothing. I've defragged the HDD and still no change. Can anyone suggest something I might have missed? I don't know if its relevant or not but I do NOT have a user account setup in Windows. Could this be causing a problem? I should point out I've not tried overclocking as I only have an out-of-the-box cooler at present.

Any ideas would be great. :banghead:

In advance, thanks :-)

so I was looking at getting identical RAM but 3x 4GB sticks so it would make a total of 18gb and future proof it until the intel skylake architecture is out, around 2015 I believe
I do convert videos on a regular basis so the extra ram would benefit me all round.

*WORKS*

mini/micro versions of HDMI/VGA/DVI/display port are electricity compatible with the normal size version so an adapter cable will work.

DVI-I/D - DVI
DVI-I/D - HDMI
DVI-I/D - Display port
DVI-I/A - VGA

Display port - HDMI
Display port - DVI
Display port - VGA (with active adapter)
Display port - Display port

HDMI - DVI
HDMI - Display port
HDMI - HDMI

VGA - VGA
VGA - DVI-A

S-video - SCART
S-video - composite
S-video - component (graphics cards only)
S-video - S-video

Component - Component

SCART- S-video
SCART - SCART
SCART - Composite

**WILL NEVER WORK WITHOUT A CONVERTER**

HDMI to VGA cable
HDMI to Composite cable
HDMI to component cable
HDMI to S-video cable
HDMI to SCART cable

VGA to component cable
VGA to composite cable
VGA to S-video cable
VGA to HDMI cable
VGA to DVI-D/I cable

Component to VGA cable
Component to Composite cable
Component to DVI cable
Component to HDMI cable
Component to display port cable

if you need to connect 2 incompatible connectors then you will need an active adapter these are little boxes that have a chip inside that converts from one display technology to another. this allows you to connect your VGA laptop to an HDMI port etc
