get a vf900 or similar performance cooler (ie universal TR)
get the cheapest 4850 you can find
when you resell, reapply the stock HSF and use the vf900 for your next card, rinse and repeat :)

vf900 isn't really all that great anymore. It gets heatsoaked fairly easily with really hot cards. They couldn't really even handle the 1950XT/XTX heat output.

I'd go for an Accelero S1 + fan or better.

VF900 works well on the HD4850. Just look at the Saphire Toxic HD4850.

I'm intrested in the HIS ICEQ4 Turbo model but only if it comes with high quality RAM that is rated for at least 1200mhz.

The price needs to come down a little too.

I like the design of the fan because it looks like it get hot air out of the case.

They may not have handled the x19xx's....but at stock speeds I see 50c's load, and 63c load with my overclock and extra voltage. Idle's at about 36c.

Yeah, and with the S1 and a fan, you'd see even lower temps, and it would be cheaper to boot. I'm willing to bet the S1 can beat it by almost 10C under load, when used with a 120mm fan.

It took a bit, but i've noticed the IceQ 4 fan makes a fairly high pitched noise when it reaches speeds over 1.3k rpm (about 30%)... either i'm unlucky and got a dud that likes to annoy its user or it's a common problem. From this experience i can definitely recommend NOT getting it :(

Yeah, that always sucks. All of us have been hit with a string of luck like that in the past tho. In the same 2 week period I had to rma 2 sets of ram, a video card, and a monitor that were all DOA.

I just hope they actually feel like replacing it, i mean the PSU they sent me literally blew up as soon as i connected it (it was another corsair 620), so i ended up using my old 620 and that's running fine, basically they seem real stingy with replacements, i mean it's not hard to see that the massive cap in the middle of that PSU is blown literally in half

Ah well, we'll see what happens, overall i love the IceQ 4 cooler, it just looks awesome, and i'm sure it sounds awesome :D

If worse comes to worst, you could always just RMA thru HIS themselves.

Did you ever get your RMA replacement? Did the high pitched fan noise go away? I was looking at the BIOS fans speed models between the different IceQ 4850's and the "Turbo X" model uses a "lookup table" with the fan speeds @ 30% min. but probably more like 41% @ idle. The other two lower models use a less aggressive fan profile (same for both) and I was thinking about going with one of those models (for Quiet). Most websites keep reviewing the "Turbo X" models so I haven't found any good feedback about the fan noise for the lower models.

Sadly not, pccasegear refuse to acknowledge the problem, and say it's just the fan spinning up during load. I actually emailed HIS first about my past problems with pccasegear and if i could go through them instead, they told me to try pccasegear first and email back if i had any problems, i did, after that i emailed back and now it's been around one week with no reply

The fan hits 25% and the high pitch noise kicks in, at around 35% (what it usually sits at when gaming) the noise becomes VERY noticable, destroying any atmosphere in my games :(

So it seems my bios is all good, i've just got a dud fan, but I've got a solution to all my problems coming soon, an Accelero S2 Rev. 2, actually two, with another 4850 :p

Hope no one gets discouraged from getting and IceQ 4, i'm sure it's very silent, i just got a dud, unlike my old X850XT IceQ 2, that was a dream

Edit: Also, the best part about the IceQ model 4850 and putting an accelero on, is i can use the original ram etc heatsinks, no need to remove them :D

You sure its not capacitor squeal? This would happen when the gpu is under load.

what your reffering to their, is it like when you open a very bright or very dark page / screen and the GFX makes a high pitched noise?

No I don't think it is

I'm seriously considering getting this HIS 4850. I know that I can find a 4850 quite a bit cheaper, but I love the ICEQ cooler design. So guys, is it worth paying extra for? Should I just wait for the price to come down when other etailers are carrying it?

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10009140

and your 260 is much faster, I know because I have two 4850, but if you want one get this card and this cooler and after the rebate it will be cheaper but this cooles alot better than the ICEQ even thought Artic cooler makes both, plus this newer version is crossfire compatable. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161235

this is also a very good cooler but doesn't cool the Voltage refulartors to well, howver contrary to what people post they are ment to take the heat http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835887009

LOL. This is an old thread. I originally purchased this 4850, then canceled my order before buying a 260gtx. Some other members have found the thread useful it seems.

Don't get the HIS ICEQ4 HD 4850 if you are looking for an overclocker. Get a measly Sapphire then buy a beefy guaranteed kickass overclocking cooler, save the trouble.
