Hey guys, I was wondering if you could tell which are the symptoms for overheating of a GPU or Video-Ram (I presmue they are diffrent?). As in, is it the fault of the GPU if there are "Geometry errors", like texture streched half across the screen (some examples of what I mean; I didn't take those pics though)
This one is not from my PS3 either, but it is from some other guy who seems to have the same problem with a Stock 60GB unit...
Nevermind the small pixel-errors (which I am pretty sure are actually RAM related, even though I remember having the 9800xt overclocked too much on DOOM3 would give me red small pixel-errors in the shadows, so I'm not all that sure);
What I am concerned about are those streched textures, is this because the gpu overheats, or because of the video rams high temps?
I'm not asking this because of my PC, but because of my PS3 which shows some of those lines in VERY VERY few occasions (and only some games) after I finally managed to get the Fan Level to stay at level 2 by applying Arctic Cooling MX-2; (Check this thread for more info: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=67406)
My guess is that the Cell is just fine with the heat, but the RSX can't take only fan-level 2 (in fact, forcing the PS3 to fan level 3 "solves" the problem; but I find it kind of uncool to wrap it insinde a towel for a few minutes just to get those lines away... =()
I applied a bit more MX-2 on the RSX than on the Cell, because it has a bigger heatspreader, and some very small drops on the 4 corners, because that is where the VRAM is located... Should I use more TIM?; I'm pretty sure the amount is right for the cell though, as it really stays in fan level 2 even while folding...
Anyhow, thanks for your answers.
