Heh, 20 ways Obama agrees with Bush:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/13/wall.bush-obama/index.html

I see this election as a very simple choice determined by their education:
1) Two lawyers
2) A soldier and a journalist

It's pretty obvious to me which is better for the USA: #2. The last thing we need is more lawyers in charge.

Wow, there are some harshness going on in this thread. Honestly, neither candidate is a good choice for president, but Im going with the lesser of two evils with McCain. It has been mentioned here before, but Ron Paul is a hoot and a damn fine person to help us out. Granted, he wont get it, but I wish he would. On the democratic side, Id rather have seen John Edwards or Bill Richardson as the Democratic Nominee.

McCain is in good health. In fact, we know more about McCain's health prior to office than any other previous President. A group of doctors examined 1100 pages of medical records from the past 8 years for 3 hours and found nothing that raises significant flags.

We know next to nothing about Obama. Obama's doctor released a brief one-page summary.

Most people are killed by what they don't know (cancer, blood clots, etc.) and we know less about Obama than we do McCain. In terms of health, McCain is the better pick.

And yes, I would trust a journalist more than a lawyer. Lawyers are professional liars. Their job is to convince a jury one way or another.

true, but if they are already accustomed to lying then that will make their job in politics so much easier
and you think journalists are any different?

remember you need to be relatively intelligent to be a lawyer, where as a journalist doesn't necessarily hold such qualifications
(i will say this very bluntly, if you didn't figure it out already, I think Palin is a moron and not suited for the job, McCain, i think he is suited well enough for the job, i just don't agree with him on too many issues, or Obama for that matter)

I have to say hes is actually right to an extent here

The William Ayres "terrorist conspiracy" is all blatant lies. If you believe its true, I have Ocean front property in Kansas to sell you.

The republican machine will churn out lies non-stop to get its supporters to become even more radical. Outside of the idiots/gullible, they will not be winning over the reasonable or intelligent people that way. Intelligent people fact check before believing in something so crazy.

Finally I found a web site that is unbias and did a true invesigation into this. It says they do know each other and indicated they worked together but it is contradicting how Mccain is saying it and characterizing it. It doesn't however say they are not good friends, it just says there is no irrefutable evidence they are. It appears Obama has been up front about his relationship with this man (how smart it was to have one at all is another matter)

here it is http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/he_lied_about_bill_ayers.html

OT - I'm still trying to decide at this point . . . I originally thought McCain, but recently I'm not so sure . . .

it doesn't help that both candidates are dancing around issues like little-school girls. But, it will boil down to the lesser of two evils, again.

I hate to say it, but I kinda supports McCain's position on Iraq . . . we're so in over our heads that to just immediately pull out would leave a major backlash. It will have to be a gradual thing . . .

no matter how we do it once we leave, Iraq is going to be screwed either way, but with a gradual pull out it will give them time to try and stabilize the region while we get our asses out of there

also i agree a gradual pull-out atm is the best method, but you should use a condom every time ;)

sorry, had to just watched a tv show that reminded me of those sex ed vids back in the day

well, for certain, the whole middle east will be screwed. The problem is, we've given them 5+ years to get their act together, and their governments aren't helping us out. But we can't just up and leave, it would leave a power vacuum that will cause massive unrest, and lead to another government overthrow.

It must be gradual, so their government sees that we're done, and they need to start picking up the slack, or hang trying.

agreed - but all's fair in love, war and politics

it really depends "do we want to create COMPLETE instability now, or do we want to do it gradually over the next few years"
if we do it now, we will save billions, but at the same time we are guaranteeing a shit storm (even more than the one we created) or wait a while and decrease the chance of a category 5 shitstorm, in favor of a cat. 3 shitstorm, but it will cost us more

now lets just HOPE that Iraq and Afghanistan doesn't have a situation that certain African countries are facing, gov being overthrown ever year or two, complete civil unrest, mass genocide, you get he idea

Hell yeah they have... "No smoking--- for the children..." , "Universal healthcare --- for the CHILDREN"...

Of the 40 million people that Obama says have no health care, 15-20% of those are rich enough, or smart enough, to have MSA's and catastrophic care insurance (which does not fit Obama-plan's definition of healthcare (bonehead!)). Another 18 million or so are "illegal aliens", so they don't deserve anything but a kick in the ass... and a large portion of the rest are already on medicare, medicaide.... but we need to tax your cigar 250% for SCHIP... for the CHILDREN... :banghead:

obama's not my "guy" he is simply the lesser of two evils, but evil is still evil

well if biden was thinking of a successful plan that we used for Germany, that might work except there really are not 3 other countries to share the burden of reconstruction... but im not aware of the specifics of his plan so im not going to assume that's what he was talking about...
although if obama wanted a complete pull out immediately, that would be better for US, saving us money and lives, but a gradual pullout would be better suited to try and maintain, or create enough stability in the region until they can get their shit together, but as i said it all depends, spend the resources to try and create a semi-stabilized region, or haul ass out of there, saving resources. we can't stay there forever, we gave them time to get their shit together, they didn't do that, they have become dependent of the US for security and basically holding things together, and i think a gradual pullout will be better for the region, ease them into trying to control the shit storm instead of just tossing them in it and hoping they come out on top, they have to take control eventually but i think the least we could do is ease them into full control

About leaving Iraq, I think only the commander overseeing operations in Iraq is able to make that decision (not sure if it is still Petras or not). Politicians on Capital Hill should never, ever make that decision. The Democratic party on both Vietnam and Operation Iraqi Freedom were epic-fails. They put their own reelection ahead of what is best for the country. Vietnam is a permanent scar on USA's history. Bad things happen when Washington political rhetoric trumps advice from the people in charge on the ground.

What really grinds my gears is Democratic leadership sees defeat as honorable. Again, despicable. :shadedshu

But Muffin, my friend... Your guy (obama) want's out now... or he campaigned on that for a year...and Biden, well, he wanted to break Iraq into 4 countries... how unifying he is!

Try to get your facts straight -- Obama doesn't want out "now," as far as I've heard. Last I heard he wanted out in 16 months or so, which coincidentally is the same amount of time that the Iraqi government wanted the US out in.

And it wasn't just Biden who wanted to "break Iraq into 4 countries" -- it was the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, headed up by former Republican Secretary of State James Baker.

Furthermore, please tell me why a country that was originally made from mashing up several greatly differing regions 80 years ago by the British shouldn't be allowed to return to its normal state.

About leaving Iraq, I think only the commander overseeing operations in Iraq is able to make that decision (not sure if it is still Petras or not). Politicians on Capital Hill should never, ever make that decision. [...]

I just love when people make this defense. "Politicians shouldn't make these decisions."

Well, you sure let politicians get you into the war in the first place, didn't you?

I'm stupid, and the thing that I remember from the debates most about "over there" is this:Obama wants to put more focus back on Afghanistan while McCain thinks we should stay the course in Iraq, and our victories there will trickle to Afghanistan.
