That card is as fast as a 280gtx....that's as fast as a x2 card.

Drugs? The difference between a 260 and a 280 is definitely not as close as you think. An x2 is faster than a GTX280. 4870 1gb and gtx260 are both great cards. I hope you buy in consideration to what games/apps you'll be using.

I'd say GTX also, I've had great luck with my 216 version, runs cool, quiet and is pretty damn oc-able. Performs quite well in games, has yet to go over 63C under the heaviest of loads at 70% fan speed (quiet yet moves a healthy amount of air). I have no experienc with the HD48xx series, but there are a few more turn offs on those cards than a GTX2xx for me, hence why I have a GTX at this moment.

Either way you can't go wrong! :toast:

yes a 4870x2 is faster but is 500+ dollars the 260gtx 216 is 259.00 and does come very close to the 280 gtx like 2 percent slower. Still the 4870 has about 200 mb more of memory and can oced to about 810 core and a large amount of overclocking can be done on the memory. If you vote please vote on merit not on fanboy stuff, if fanboy-isum was the case I would buy the ATI card. However, I'm not look for that here.

WoW!!! this poll is really making it a clear choice :slap:

I was able to OC my GTX260 216 to 666/1436 1200 from a stock of 576/1242 1000 with ease...I can take it further, but have yet to...my 192sp could hit around 756/1541 1300 from same stock speeds. The GTX cards are now slouches to OC-ing for sure! :D

Like I said before both ways are good routes to take, depends on what you want though, both have ups and downs, gotta choose what you wanna deal with and what you don't. You won't really "lose" either way...896MB of frame buffer is still pretty damn good, and that gDDR3 is quite capable stuff for overclocking I've seen most hit around the 1250 area, my old card could hit 1320, pretty good OC for ram imo.

Get the cheaper option, or go with your gut feeling or flip a quarter! :toast:

Stay with the GTX you ordered.
From what I have read the 4870 1GB does actually make use of the 1GB of memory to significantly increase frames at high res but only in some games.

Get the 4870 just because the 260 comes with that sad excuse of a game.

Is it really that bad? I was thinking about getting it but I really hated the first one so I didn't.

My brother liked the first one and bought the second.
Played it for a few hours and thought it was crap.
Said something about it feeling unfinished and buggy, so he returned it to EB and bought Fallout 3, no complaints, plus he has a new luchbox!

The 260GTX can be made to exceed a GTX280 quite readily.

that there is 4870X2/280GTX+ performance, yet at less cost, and no multi GPU issues, not that you planned on multi gpu anyway....

right now at that price the GTX has the advantage of being massively overclockable, and all the CUDA stuff, not to mention (in my opinion) friendlier and better drivers.

I would get the 4870 only because I would like the option of running Crossfire in the future if I decided to. Even if I didn't plan to do it originally, the option is there. I like having choices. That's my one regret with having an 8800GT on this board. Now that more demanding games have come out, it can't keep up at my res, and I don't have the option of adding another.

Did someone say folding:laugh:? Not only can the GTX260 game pretty well, but it's a folding monster that puts out 7K PPD. While I'm not an Nvidia fanboi(I run 10 Nvidia cards), I can appreciate the flexibility and value that the Nvidia platform currently provides.

Allright went totally off course and picked up a 3870x2 ROG edition with COH for 164.00. I had one before and didn't see any real world difference between it and my old 280gtx, 4870 or 4850's in crossfire and at that price with a after market cooler it a beast. This card still matches a 4870 in most things and beats a 4850. I really liked the cooler on this card and it matches my ROG motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121247 plus I can pocket about 100.00. After all is said and done. Might be a bad move but this card can handle just about anything out there.
