Here is a full modding guide for the Ati HD4870X2 gfx card.
you need a screwdriver and a sharp knife and a good solder iron and some small wires
And 2x50 Ohm and 1x50K Ohm Multiturn Vrs
And a lot of paticence.

The first thing we have to start with is to dismantle the card.
The card it self.

The back of the card.

And now to unscrew all the screws.

And then we can take the back cover of the card, be carefull not to harm the mempads
as you are gonna use them again.

The rest you can se here..

Are you daft? His mod would give a lot more than 2fps... There are proven bench shots all over the place. Volt mods are just risky. Don't be so negative especially when he put so much work into taking good pictures/volt modding enough cards to be SURE he was doing it right.

No it wouldn't.

In realworld situations, modern day GPUs, especially high end ones, benefit very little from overclocking, even with unlocked voltages.

Ya, you might get another ten fps on top of your already 80 in Call of Duty, but it's not going to stop the card from tanking in heavily intensive situations.

Overvolted clocks do not fix minimum framerates.

Noone's being negative, it's called being aware that taking a soldering iron to your cards isn't as effective as it once was, and has become a bit of a cult trend amongst hardware modders.

It doesn't have much practical purpose anymore.

Now, go back and look at my post and consider the humor relationship between overvolting and THAT particular picture.

How can you say that when there is a HUGE difference between 800 MHz and stable 860-890 MHz clock rates on the 4870x2?

I get the jist of what you're pointing out but it seems like an ignorant observation.

Show me a HUGE minimum framerate difference?

Go on, bust out some games with massive texture sizes like 4096X4096 or even 2048X2048 with SM 3.0 or higher.

haha... i bet that card hauls... i love the cooling mod... that can be used for any dual slot cooler.

EDIT: @newconroer

"Cranking it up some more from the base 576MHz/1,242/1,998MHz clocks, we managed really push the card to decent levels, topping out at 704MHz core/1,414MHz shaders/2,450MHz memory. Seeing this, we wonder if the same base binning is used on EXO samples, too.

Looking back at the ET:QW test at 1,920x1,200 we see that card, at its shipping clocks, scored an average 75.93fps. When overclocked this rose to an impressive 89.7 fps when overclocked, which is the kind of benchmark result a Radeon HD 4850 X2 returns." - thats a 18% difference - not bad for a 14% overclock on shaders and a 22% overclock on core HExus gtx 260 review... modern GPU's do benefit from OCing but not ATI since they dont OC... im guessing with the vmod he gets about 9-10% increase per gpu which isnt much but the ATI cards dont clock that well.

that's all he can be is negative when it deals with AMD... i call it how i see it.

this was a while ago... I would love to see some benches of an 4870X2 with the 900 core.

ya but seems that any topic that has AMD related, that guy is always in there, its like he trolls the forums for it, always pessimistic, even when AMD has finally caught Intel in the Current buyers market by making Q9000 series Performance at the price of what a E8600 would cost. (Core2, core i7 still has yet to take over Core 2 Fully).
