[WTB] 256MB AGP Card for Mac G4

Any idea if the 6800nu's are mac flashable?

Good place to check out, small site, and the forums are down, which sucks, but it's got a mini-buying guide on the wiki, which is very useful.

If I were you, I'd grab a 6200 AGP, and flash it, if you manage to get the PV-T44A-WANG or PV-T44D-WANG, then you'll have the correct flash ROMs on the site already. I thought I was screwed, I ordered a 6200 AGP, hoping I was getting a T44A, but got a T44D, since I hadn't heard about it anywhere on the internet, I risked it, and did a flash, it works just fine.
It's in my Sawtooth. An underpowered card, but it's not bottlenecking anything, since the rest of the system is a bottleneck (2x AGP, dual 450MHz G4, and only 512MB SD RAM), and really gave a big boost to OS X Tiger.

i already do have a flashed card in my system. Its an ati radeon 9500 128mb which works great but I want best I can get for my mac. So im hoping to find something with 256mb and possibly also 256bit with 8 pipes. The mac elite site is great as I used it for a few cards already but not a 256er yet.

I'm not for sure, but I thought you have to get special hardware for MACs? Am I wrong?

The older PowerPC Macs used a different type of firmware/BIOS to PCs, and the drivers were specialised for specific model numbers of certain graphics cards, so 6200s were actually never truly supported, they use modified 6600 drivers.
I guess it was mostly so Apple could control the flow of third-party hardware more.

Now, Macs are using EFI instead of the traditional BIOS, and this includes the graphics cards using firmware compatible with these (or sumat along those lines). Although the increased interest in Macs means there are some third-party drivers showing up.


Anyhow, back on track: the best you'll get for the Quicksilver is a 6800 Ultra, or an X800 XT. Just check with The Mac Elite again, should show which models are compatible. Those cards should be pretty cheap now-a-days, if you go for the un-flashed variants.
