Call Of Duty Series: 35 Million Sold

Ever stop and wonder just why it is Activision have two development teams working on Call of Duty? It's not for the hell of it. Or even, mm mmm mmmm, for the smell of it. It's because people can't seem to stop buying the various iterations of the franchise. An innocent little Reuters story from last week reveals that, since the first game was released in 2003, the Call of Duty series - which if I'm not mistaken stands at nine games and one expansion pack - has sold 35 million copies across the world.
Those aren't "good" numbers. Those are Mario/Madden/Halo numbers.

Well then lets hope Infinity Ward makes another hit with Modern Warfare II. My current most anticipated 2009 title :D

I though the next one, what CoD6, was going to be in the future. Or are they calling it Modern Warfare II just in the future?

This doesn't surprise me, and is indeed impressive. I have 3 of them myself, and the expansion pack. Haven't bought a treyarch one yet because I don't feel they are as good. But thats just me

Infinity Ward are making the next one!
Hopefully Activision have realised Treyarch fail bad now and will just go on with Infinity Ward.

COD1 - Epic - Infinity Ward - Great start to franchise
COD2 - Epic - Infinity Ward - Still played online by many
COD3 - Fail - Didn't even bother with a PC release
COD4 - Epic - One of the top online FPS games
COD5 - Fail - Copy of COD4 but in WW2, which we've had too much of already\

Anyway, Treyarch rant over LOL.

Modern Warfare II :D That'll be tooo nice.

need to just drop WWII all together but you know that won't help. me personally modern warfare is overrated got enough games pushing that as it is, heck even futuristic FPS are getting a little out there.

they could do vietnam but it would either rock or suck; the previous games focused on it decided that for me.

I don't know I've thought the series is fairly standard, nothing really special except for a few moments here and there, and some fairly solid multi if you like fps multi (which for me personally gets quite old, which is perhaps why I don't care for the series much). At it's best it's only been good, for the most part it's been stale, repetitive, un-imaginitive, and shallow. I haven't invested time into them all though.

Still, congratulations to a successful series. :toast:

I suppose, but they don't really have a big appeal, and the further the games go back, the crappier the guns become.

Thats why i either like Fantasy games or Sci fi, that way the delevopers can use there inmagination, make their own guns, and use their own ideas, instead of following an path, which they can't alter, i know some people like games from those times, but in the end it's just going to be the same over and over, that's why atleast with these 2 types, they can add many new ideas.

I disagree on the creativity aspect, but I got nothing else to say.

Well if you are going by that then the only war they can do is WWII and Desert Storm. Unless you want a game based on the cold war. THAT would be exciting....:shadedshu
