Now i know my current CPU is bottlenecking my graphics card, (E4400) the new one is coming shortly.. (Q6600) but SURELY i should see better improvements than this?

This is with 1280x1024 res, CSS was maxed out apart from aa 4x and as 4x
COD4 highest settings and automatic on texture effects and stuff, aa 2x and no as.

70-80 fps in CSS
35-60 fps COD4 (with a fair bit of action going on)

I uninstalled the nvidia drivers from control panel, then used a program called driver sweeper to clean the nvidia display and physx, didnt clean the nvidia chipset bit tho, maybe i should of?

I restarted PC, noticed that it was still at 1280x1024, but there was lag when i moved things around, plus there was no graphics card found in display, so i thought it would be done. downloaded and installed latest drivers for the 9800GTX+ then restarted again.

What could it be? Or is it just that my processor is that much of a bottleneck? Lol

Also one other thing, i've noticed that it doesn't get much hotter than it is idle when on COD4 getting low fps, it hasn't gone over 50*C, idles 39*C yet. Just incase that helps lol

Like 6 months ago, i had the 8800gts g92 and paired with an e8400. It got over 400fps CSS (all settings maxed) and about 160 in Cod4. Something's gotta be wrong with that e4400/9800gtx+ setup.

2gb, but only shows as 1.8gb :/

4GB Crucial Ballistix ordered

I'll try the virus scans ;)

Hmmm.. O_O As i started the malwarebytes anti-malware scan Avira AntiVir found a Trojan called TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen in C:\WINDOWS\Temp :X
Plus keeps popping up with a detection message, i delete it then a new one pops up soon after.

Anyone know some free good antivirus/trojan/spyware scanners?

The E4400 is not bottlenecking you. You do not need a Q6600 to play games at a respectable level.

This is with 1280x1024 res, CSS was maxed out apart from aa 4x and as 4x
COD4 highest settings and automatic on texture effects and stuff, aa 2x and no as.

CSS is a old ass game, shouldn't take much to max out that game.

35-60 fps COD4 (with a fair bit of action going on)

35-60 FPS isn't low FPS, 30 FPS is considered minimum, anything above it is high FPS.

things around, plus there was no graphics card found in display,

The fact that no graphics card display is found is a huge indication that its driver related. Although you've removed Nvidia drivers Windows will attempt to allocate some default drivers automatically this is more common in Vista, this confusion can cause many conflicts.

Also one other thing, i've noticed that it doesn't get much hotter than it is idle when on COD4 getting low fps, it hasn't gone over 50*C, idles 39*C yet. Just incase that helps lol

Do not worry about the temperature its normal :) I advise that you back up all your important files and do a full format and reinstall of windows. I can remember when I purchased my 9600 GT I got about 3000 points extra in 3D marks when I did a fresh format and reinstall of windows :)

After you've done the format:
-install the latest Nvidia drivers
-install the latest motherboard chipset drivers
-install the motherboards IDE/raid controller drivers
-make sure you configure windows so that the unnecessary processes are not in the memory

Yea you have some sort of serious driver conflict there. Download the 180.48 drivers and save to your desktop then uninstall your old drivers..Look in your files and delete nvidia folder...then reboot into safe mode and install new drivers!!

could this be a Vsync issue?....framerates seem about right to be capped with Vsync!

Exactly what I was thinking. My new monitor caps my pc at 24fps because of vsync.

Nah it's not vsync, i do get over 200fps at times on COD4, just when theres a bit of action it goes right down to like 35.

Considering a full reformat... I can put all files on my other HDD and reformat main one i guess :/

Just hate starting anew, finding the network disks and the right sound drivers and uggh. Lol
