whats best dvi/hdmi/vga

just got my new HD4870 and it has a hdmi port and so does my 22' monitor what would be best to use

HDMI is basically DVI+audio. It won't matter.

If your 22" monitor has speakers, use HDMI. If it does not, use DVI-D single-link. If it runs at a resolution greater than 1920 x 200 @ 60 Hz, use DVI-D dual-link or HDMI 1.3 (if it has speakers). You can always plug in the speakers separately using the stereo 3.5mm jacks as well.

My 19" HDTV has VGA and DVI on the back (among other things, component, s-video, and good old RCA). I had my uncle order me a cable off of ebay yesterday, it's DVI on one end and HDMI on the other. We'll see how it works. Anyway HDMI is supposed to be pretty much DVI but with audio support. I suppose some monitors support using 2 DVI connections at the same time, so if yours does that definately go with that. Otherwise just use HDMI.

Yes the 4870's have audio out via the HDMI... all of the 4000 series with HDMI out have the build in audio so they can be used in HTPC's. Dual DVI connectors is so you can connect the video card to 2 different sources... I have my 1950Pro hooked up to my TV and my monitor.

It honestly doesn't matter if your monitor doesn't have speakers. If it does, like said above, go with the HDMI

for anything up to 2048x1536 VGA will be plenty.

naturally DVI is better/newer and supports higher res.

HDMI is DVI + Sound, hope that makes it easy.

im saving for a lcd monitor (though crisis and hard economical situation put it hard to keep saves), i always use vga because is my only option, but i always wanted to try dvi to see what differemces there are

So ur running 800 x 600 or 640 x 480. That's the only res VGA supports or VGA graphics.

that's the true, if you have a 360 or ps3 use hdmi, but if you don't dvi is the best choice
