So i was fiddling around with my GFX card around a week ago and a little piece of the mobo came off. It looks like a voltage regulator. Anyway, all worked np. then.... playing a game and it just dies, GFX was screwed so removed and swapped in an old one. Played some more for 3-4 days and the old GFX dies too. Poor thing was so so hot to touch, i guess the piece regulator voltage in the PCIE thingy. Anyway, so now put back in the original dead GFX and its working.

me thinks its time for a new mobo before things get really ugly.

Any suggestions on a good replacement for a INTEL BADAXE with ATI4870 gfx?

I would suggest not using your current motherboard at all before something melts. Any P35/P45 chipset mobo should do fine.

I would never try to boot up a machine with a missing voltage regulator!! But anyways do u have a budget. U should get a high end 45nm proc like E8400 and a better board, P5Q is a badass clocker (if u oc but still a great board).

On the up side, my wife seems happy to have some free time with me now for a while.

I would like something with 2xPCIE 2.0 x16 and another PCIE x 4 for a sound card. The result of the hardware will fit around the mobo specs really.

I was thining now P5Q-E but my ram is 667, so that would not work right?

There's no problem running 667 on a P5Q-E as long as it's DDR2.

Hehe, rushing here as i am now freaked out to be using this thing:

Options:

Asus P5Q3, iP45, S 775, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 1066/1333/1600/1800(OC), SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX

or

Asus P5Q PRO, iP45, S 775, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR2 1200MHz, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX

Price difference = $10

hmmmm?

U should go back to P5q-e because u stated u want 2xPCI-E and 1xPCI-E 4x for sound card. The P5q pro only has 2xPCI-E.

Just checked but I think the card actually requires PCIEx1, as i understand it the P5Q Pro has 2xPCIE 16 and 3xPCIEx1. That would be good right?
