I dunno, if you are not going to game at high resolution a single GPU card is always better, no matter the drivers.

EDIT: I just wanted to be sure about this, so I've checked some reviews of the card and definately at anything below 1920x1200 a GTX280 is generaly faster and GTX260 216 and HD4870 1GB are just as fast. Unless you want crazy AA, like 12x-24x I wouldn't recomend the X2 for lower resolutions than that. Worse power consumption and noise according to the reviews I just checked and if you are not going to use the card where it shines, I don't see the point really.

I would love to see tri-sli 285's in action for sure! Fits get's what about 38k in Vantage with sli gtx295's? Almost 39k...what can 285's do, especially with some extra clocks on em'...wish I could afford to do it!

The gtx 285 gpu is the one found paired in the gtx 295. The 285 just has more RAM per GPU and one less GPU. Both are the same nm last time I checked.

That would probably be severely out of budget... I mean, why not just throw in an extra $1000 and get three 4870x2's? It wouldn't make sense to increase the budget THAT much...

I'm in the same situation as you paulieg, need a card somewhere below $325...

Personally, I'm considering two options:

Over budget and get two of these:

I'm not sure if its worth getting the 2GB version, but I will be getting a new monitor which would be 1920x1200, so that adds an extra factor...
