I am giving up on PCI cards. I am not going to go into details(unless you want to know why) But as of right now, i am going to buy my last pci card early march for my Intel Pentium III, the BFG 8400GS
http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr84512gsp.aspx

And i am also buying my secondary computer next month also
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=9191545

Note: I am only spending 270 on that rig, at another store

I am not using Vista, i have a XP pro disc. I am not into vista right now, or win7.

I don't buy video cards online, infact i am not buying anything online ever again. I have my reasons, but i like buying in the store, off line, drive there, buy whatever you like and get done.

Now that i am moving on to PCIE, I really wanted the Diamond 4670 1GB to be my first PCIE card, but as always they are not sold anywhere offline. So i am kinda puzzle on what i want to buy now. I don't have a budget, but i do have limits. So my limit for a new PCIe card is set at 100. So i will look around in stores the same day i buy my new rig and see what i can buy with it.

Note: I am sticking to the trend tho, i am not buying any card that needs a connector.

I must say, i am real excited. :)
peace, and i will let everyone know when i get it :)

Would you be open to buying a used card from someone here? You could pick up a nice 3870 or 9600 for cheap that would be an awesome upgrade from your PCI 8400.

I respect your opinion to buy offline, everyone is entitled and can retain thier own reasons.

Thanks , but i will pass. You guys are cool like pancakes and jelly, but i don't buy stuff from people online, privacy reasons my friend. I guess if you were aware of who i was , then you might of known already.

No, the pci 8400gs i am buying for my pentium III. But i am buying a whole new computer and planning to use PCIe.

Step up a bit and get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102803&Tpk=Sapphire 4830 u won't regret it. But if u can't stretch then go with the 4670.

------------------> Note: I am not buying any card that needs a connector.

Here is what i am looking at so far:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8761878&type=product&id=1202650704648

Seems pretty good for 80 bucks.

or i could get this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8992593&type=product&id=1218007083797

or

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8993743&type=product&id=1218007088049

The one for 80 dollars, i need to see the specs on it, but i can't seem to find it. But for 80, seems pretty cool

Get the 4670. But I would advise you to get the 512MB version over the 1GB version. Save some money. just make sure whatever you get has gddr3 or better. gddr4 is too slow.

No. DDR2 (system memory) is just fine. I really did mean GDDR2, as in Graphics DDR2. GDDR2 is old, slow, and obsolete. GDDR3 is much faster. GDDR4 is just a tweaked version of GDDR3. It's a tad faster and more energy efficent. I wouldn't dive for a card with GDDR4 if I already had a card picked out that had GDDR3. GDDR5 is actually much faster but those cards will be way out of your price range, and besides, I garuntee any modern card with gddr5 requires power connectors.

Don't think that this is the same for system memory. As far as system memory goes, right now the only benefit DDR3 has over DDR2 is bragging rights. It's not really faster. Sure you get more MHz but the higher latencies kinda ruin it. If I was building a new rig, I would probably be buying DDR2, unless God himself dropped a couple grand on me for whatever unforseeable reason, I might get an i7 rig (and there are no i7 motherboards that work with DDR2, and there never will be, because the memory controller is on the processor anyway). But me getting a couple grand for no reason is far off in some distant, limbo universe.

why not build a computer instead of buying a prebuilt.
Just not into it thats all. I would rather buy something thats already put together :)

any reason for no "connectors"?
Even tho i am moving on from PCI, i am keeping that old trend of not having nothing connected to my video card.

GDDR3 is much faster.
I am buying that visiontek GDDR3 card, so no worries.

That model only has a 300 watt PSU and running a 4670 will be risky, and oem psu's are usually crap, don't think a 4670 will run in that thing correctly

http://www.gateway.com/product_spec.php?product_recid=529668235

You do know with my p3 i have 90watts right, and i am using a card that requires a 270, and the 8400gs which i plan to get requires 350. I have use a 8400gs on my computer before and it worked just fine with 90watts. Also, you said the OEM psu's are crap, well tell that to my 90watts which has been working since 2000

I have no plans to upgrade that 300PSU, but if it fails , i have a brand new 350PSU for spare.

Yea i know its funny, moving on to pcie in 2009

Did you consider Sapphire?
Yes, but i am sticking with that visiontek card at best buy.

if you have a microcenter near you, they carry diamond products.
I went to the site, no location near me, but if i am ever in one of those states i will travel there, however looking at thier site, they have diamond products. But i am just going to go ahead and buy this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8992593&type=product&id=1218007083797

Should be very nice for my first PCIE card :rockout: Crysis all high 1280x1024 200fps baby ;)
Nah, say 1280x1024 high setitngs, and i will see what happens. If i get 30-50 that will be perfect to me.

You mean PCIE 2.0 ;)
Vision Tech is O.K. just make sure Best Buy is not overcharging. They are known to charge more money for PC parts.

Yes, it's too bad you don't purchase online. You're paying a huge price premium shopping at Best Buy, which in this case is not the best buy.

Not only could you save quite a bit of money, but in addition you could get the same card with a better cooling system. That heatsink/fan unit on the Visiontek is absolute garbage, and won't be very quiet. But it should hopefully be adequate at keeping the card within reasonable temperatures.

But you could do a whole lot worse shopping locally. You made a good choice for your first PCI-E video card. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

Any chance you have a Fry's nearby? You could get a very good deal on a video card there...

can you define 'no connectors'? if you're looking for any decent PCIE card and are expecting to not have to use additional power connectors...well...it does limit you massively..

O.K. I just realized you were looking at the HD 4670 from Vision Tech off the Best Buy website. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are charging you way too much money for that slow performing card. You can get a much much faster HD 4830 and/or HD 4850 for CHEAPER.

Radeon HD 4830's (I like the HIS or Sapphire version) $99.99 to 129.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=HD+4830

HD 4850 = $149.99 ($129.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate)

The OP already stated that he isn't buying online anymore, nor does he want a PCI-E video card that utilizes any PCI-E power connectors. So his best bet is the HD4670, unfortunately...

I just noticed his system specs. Well, I guess the HD 4670 will have to do for now.

I am so confused...

Keeping with the "trend" of not using extra connectors? The newer cards pretty much require it, and there's absolutely no reason not to do it just to stick with a trend.

Privacy reasons for not shopping online? I guess I can respect that, but as others have said, you're going to be paying a huge huge (read, huge) price increase for shopping locally at a bloated store like Best Buy. You can get the same hardware for much less online.

Hell, when I bought my HD TV they were $3500 at Best Buy and I got it for $2100 on Amazon.

Waste of money in my opinion.

I love me some gateway :respect:

And for my Last PCI card to buy for my P3:
Either the Diamond Stealth Radeon 9250 256MB/128bit or Any cheap X1550 pci card.
I need a backup radeon card for my p3, so thats why i am buying one. It will be my last PCI card i buy..........And thats pretty much it!

Oh and for the person who said i should get a better PSU, i will be just fine with the one already in the tower. Thanks anyways.

I just noticed his system specs. Well, I guess the HD 4670 will have to do for now.
You act like the 4670 is bad or something

You can find most HD TV's for 1200 or less at certain retail stores. What size was the tv anyways, 52 inch?

The 4670 with DDR3 is the perfect choice.:toast: A friend of mine uses one in his dual core s939 system and can pretty much max out most games at 1280x1024 resolution and under. I also appreciate what you are doing with building a capable low-power system. People always want to see the biggest and best. Personally I like to see people taking hardware that most scoff at and make it work well. :)
