How about a security section?

The title says it all "How about a security section". I think it would be a great addition to the site. People could share their knowledge on how to stay safe and what has happen to them in the past. We could even have some stickies to cover the basics. Talk about new threats and what to look for.

Excellent point. I went back to BP's original thread on this from April as I recalled the discussion somewhat. Dan made some pretty valid points as did others.

Seems the general consensus was to rename the "Networking" forum to "Networking and Security" as the Networking section isn't that crowded anyway. (Kudos to Kreij for the "Networking and Security" idea btw)

Yes, I remember agreeing to that.
As rightly pointed out the Networking section isn't crowded at all, and when security issues are posted under 'General Software' they seem a tad out of place, in my personal humble opinion.

It makes a lot of sense for Security to be added to "Networking" primarily because 99.9% of security issues arise due to the fact of the pc being on a network. Gone are the days where you could get an infected floppy..... Many people, including myself, do not install AV or anti-spyware on pc's which are not connected.

Again, why not just include it in the networking section?

Networking includes LAN, small offices networking and also singular computers connecting to the internet... to which a security add on is not far away at all.

Why have two sections rarely being used when you can have one that is used more often.

It's not in the title, but wouldn't it be logical to have security topics just go into the networking forum? Security is a part of networking after all. I think we deffinitely do not need another forum/section for any reason or topic.

It's W1zzard or Urlyin's decision. Moderators cannot alter the structure of the forums.

Polaris just said, mods do not have the power to alter the structure of the forum. You would have to make it known to W1zz or Urlyin, and then gather enough people that agree with you to even warrant it crossing their mind. Then they might do it after a little more persuasion.
