New gaming/allround computer..any suggestions ?

Hello,

I've been saving money for a while and now I've enough money (about 2000 euro's)to buy a new computer. I'm going to use it as an allrounder , gaming ,school ,watching movies, overclocking and etc.

First I made this S775 system:

As you can see it has a nice videocard..and it should overclock very well.

After reading some comments about buying a Core i7 system , I searched for some components to fit my needs:

As you can see this system has a HD4850 instead of the HD4870. also it has 250Gb less harddisk space , only 3GB ram and a smaller case.

You see.. when I started with this whole computer thing . I promised myself not to go over 1000euro's so I could save the other half.. but now I see people saying it's better to buy a Core i7 rig .

So am I crazy when I don't buy this Core i7 system which cost about 150-200 euro's more? Or will the S775 config be good enough?

i7 is not affordable for my budget...
core i7 will come buy maby in 2 years.. not now.

I've never used euros for buying pc stuff but isn't 1000 euroes quite alot for a system like that.

He's included a monitor, without that it'd be ~€820, which seems ok.
Though if I had 800 to spare, I'd certainly get a second i7 system

Why would it be quite alot ?
Like saying
the mobo is €300 & the cpu is about €245 a random gfx is about €400
and ofcuz he also will need memory which is about €140
the other parts are just side effects

but side effects which I will need...

Edit:: OOH how do I end up here talking about my own config.. sorry guys.. I'm confused

I just checked on a british website and noticed prices are actualy very similar. I thought the E8xxx series was much cheaper than that but it seems I was wrong

Edit :: Like said before.. He should better save up for a i7 architecture config.. the C2D will become outdated anyway.

I think saving up for an i7 is a better idea tbh it won't get outdated anytime soon and c2d and c2q are old technology now although still work well.

I would not buy C2D. I would go for at least PII x3 720BE.
And if you are not bothered that it is not that great overclocker compared to 720BE than get PII X4 810.

That core i7 build you've listed is nice. You can keep adding onto it later on with more ram if you wish etc.

I know the Core i7 config is nice but should I buy it? Will it be worth the 200 euro's?
Should i wait for P55 socket? How long will the 1366 socket last?

Socket 1366 is the high-end socket for this next-gen platform. Intel is planning on releasing different socket formats for different needs with this one and hopefully will keep these sockets for a while.

The X58 chipset is still the only chipset that can handle Core i*, since Intel has still not given permission to other vendors (ie. nVidia) to make chipsets for Core i*'s. It's a killer chipset though.

One thing you might want to consider is that DDR2 is nearing the end of its lifecycle. Any upgrade from a current system in say a year from now will involve getting DDR3 RAM.

If you have the time, you could wait for the other Core i* series to come out, at which point either the i7 series will drop in price a little, or you might consider those i5's at that point.

If you want to upgrade now and have a futureproof system to last for a couple of years, I'd definately go for the i7 system over the Core2Duo.
Multithreading will become mainstream in games in time as well, at which time having a quadcore with HyperThreading will be a significant performance benefit compared to dual cores.

Yes I want to upgrade now.. waiting for P55 will take a while..and I don't like to wait.

But I hope that core i7 will stay high -end for like 2-4 years.. It would be f'ed when I'd buy the core i7 system and that next year another high-end socket will come out.

Spending the 200 euro extra seems cool too.. lol from P4 to Core i7... that's crazy.

I hope the i7 architecture will benefit from the mistakes made with P4.
Altho.. C2D and Q2D is also P4.
Lets say the socket 1366 will last for a few months.. but they keep updating it.. would be imba !

I'm really happy with my i7 and I wouldnt change it for the world!

If it turns out the i7 is totally wrong and intel goes back to P4 and the benefit goes to the C2D&Q2D then I'll still be happy I have owned an i7.
