Hello fellas! I got this "maybe works or maybe works not" GFX card for few bux.. its this club 3d model http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/4578/Club3D.7900GTX.512.060216.html

..card works "fine" but right from the beginning it gives these small artifacts around the screen, like dead pixels..different colours etc..so my bet is that this card is almost dead and i should just rip the humongous cooling system out and make something usable out of it.. or whats your opinion?

I didnt bother to install driver since those artifacts were there right from beginning of start up. I have Antec 500w earthwatts PSU, so its not a problem and this card was also tested with other system.. any luck if i reflash bios or something? Ty for your comments .

This card was one of the most exspensive and high performance card. I remember it.

I think it is still in a few old high performance PCs.

In my opinion you have to flash the bios many things have changed when Nvidia produced this video card.

Ummm, from experience . . . . This card should not have been released after production.
If i remember correctly, it was majorly recalled, dont quote me on that. Just the GTX, not GT.
I went thru 14 pairs myself, it was a fun time . . .

Ended up waiting for the x1950xtx & then the crossfire a week later.

I think your card is DEAD, well not yet, but its on its way.

I had this card, and it holds the prize of being the card i kept for the shortest time... I bought it november 2006 to replace my elderly 6600GT and then 2 months later i bought the 8800GTX that i still have. Still i think it was a good card.

I think your card is DEAD, well not yet, but its on its way.

7900GT's ( Not sure about GTX) had a flaw with the regulator placement were it would over heat. With the reg placement being near the southbridge coursed it to overheat even more if decent cooling was not provided.

It was a bad time and loads of people had issue's with the card eVGA were able to keep there forums up but XFX shut down there's as it was getting to much for them. It's all over eVGA's forum just take some looking as this was a few years ago.

How people got around it was to place a little heatsink on the chip as when it got to hot it coursed problems like artifacts. Also there was a bios update for my 7900GT which uses lower timings on the ram what supposed to help it too which i never bothered with as if it blow up it did and they would replace it anyways.

I'll see if i can get a pic ( in the next 20 mins) of the area of the PCB were i m on about so you could try cooling it down more see if it helps you.

hmm i tought about overheating too BUT how come it could overheat right from the start! When i power up PC with 7900GTX in first bootscreen artifacts are there. Maybe i try to get proper cooling around that area or place a sink over there! But first i try to flash a new bios in it as i get back to home ..thanks for help guys! :toast:

Uh, it may sound like a stupid suggestion, but, have u checked the cable connecting it to the monitor? used another cable? Does the card have 2 DVI ports? have u used the other one?

OK, I know you say it does it from the start, but you also said ^^^ "I didnt bother installing a Driver"... Ummm that may be a problem too. Install the new drivers and see what happens.

Or am i just missing something here?:wtf:

i think you are not missing anything..i didnt bother to install drivers because i tought logically how would it help, because artifacts kick in before the OS is even loaded up..making any sense?

Could it be your monitor or cable? Or it could be EMI from other components in your PC. Try it in a completely different PC; if it artifacts, then it is screwed.

like stated earlier above , YES , i has been tested with other system and dif cables, same problem..im getting convinced that , that card is dying, but im STILL gonna reflasha new bios in it as i get back home..

BTW Offtopic, i have one Club3D x1950 gt 256 pcie lying around and i was thinking about flashing it to PRO but im not so experienced with flashing these..

My question here is that does it matter if i flash it with different manufacturers bios..since ive not been able to find a Club3d 1950 Pro 256 model bios..heres what i was thinking to put in Club3D x1950 gt 256 pcie ..

http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/865/Asus.X1950PRO.256.060831.html ANY advices considering this are helpful..thanks !
