Why is it so wrong? Why is this topic off limits?

We review hardware and software with no mercy on this site. Either it performs well or it doesn't. So why is it so wrong to voice our opinions regarding other hardware forums?

I consider it a service if TPU members offer advise on other forums that maybe skewed one way or another, at least I know what to expect from these sites.

There have been many threads closed if you even mention other sites and especially anything remotely having to do with HardOCP. Why? Are mod or site owners affiliated with them? Is TPU doing some link exchanges or other marketing initiatives? Is there a legal situation?

I understand personal attacks are not accepted, but I also think its a valid for members to offer their point of view regarding other tech forums and what thier thoughts are. Im actually worried this thread will get closed just because I mentioned the "off limit" sites name.

I wasnt aware threads got closed for links to other sites. Links are posted all over to other sites reviews of things, that how the "e-world" gains more knowledge.

I would imagine it has more to do with the candor of the members in the thread versus what is actually linked to.

Can you provide a link to said closures?

I thought i wasnt aloud to mention guru 3d but then everyone told me i was wrong, i once went to post about them in a thread and i said "that forum that cannot be named" something like that but dont quote me on it. Also before i thought it was an unwritten rule to beef with rival forums but its not. I dont like guru 3d but they list drivers and have a modder who mods drivers called side.

I dont think the mods care if you mention other forums ect, just dont go promoting websites like free advertising. Me i dont understand the rules on tpu one min its real lax you can get away with anything next its strict but most of the time. As long as you dont personally insult anyone you are fine, be a grass and tell on people is also very underrated, everyone thinks its bad to grass but itll get you far more respect.

I dont really want to join another forum coz a lot of them stick up for their people like a large clique eg long time members and you cant even discuss properly but man i think things have changed here on tpu but im not going into that.

There is all the bother of trying to fit in to a forum to, one that wont be to lax eg let members do what they like, (ive seen few that let people flame it gets personal and out of hand) but at the same time let members disagree and not be on peoples cases all the time.

I am considered a joke on tpu anyway so i dont care.

I wouldnt mind knowing a few places to go, even some more specialised places for certain hardware.

of course you can post links to other hw sites. you can not post links for the sole purpose of promoting a site.

As newsie's, you must have seen the source links we place at the end of the article?
There is no problem quoting and linking to other sites, we do it all the time! It works both ways too!
The TPU news mailbox is full of links toing and froing between this and other sites, asking for their reviews and articles to be posted, and replies that they have posted our reviews.

I think the only thing not allowed, which goes for most things anyway, is slagging off other forums, same way as you can't slag off people.

Though if you have a juicy piece of news from another site, please either use the submit news button on the front page, or PM one of the news team, either me, btarunr or malware. Rather than posting it yourself, as you will have probably seen, you will always get credit for submitting it.

Im sorry. I guess I didn't explain my question fully.

If I were to comment on other forums. Like whether I like the forum, or agree with the forum, or what I think of the other forum and their reviews in general. As in "why is it wrong for me to voice my opinion regarding other tech sites."

Im looking for some examples but I am not sure Closed/Locked topics are searchable?

I am not talking about providing links to other sites, which I have done many times.

This isn't a big huge deal, but it did bother me the last time it happened. A TPU member said something about HardOCP being on Nvidias bankroll and the next thing that thread was closed.

Closed threads are searchable.
But I can imagine if you say "XXXforum" is corrupt, or "sux", then it probably would get closed.

You can express your doubts if they are backed up by something, no-one would close your thread if you said something like, "do the results of this review seem right to you"?

We don't need endless discussion about "I got banned from -insert website- because mod -bla- is a complete penis". It just doesn't add much. If it's something constructive it's fine, though certain things tend to end up in flame wars. Though in most cases it's fine to mention, link to or discuss other sites.

Obviously our rules do include you being unable to bash TPU on other forums, in fact you're bound by our EULA to promote TPU as the best tech site on the planet. Really, pinky swear.

LOL. Well I dont remember the Penis comment. I do remember the thread you are talking about, and yeah there were several comments that were over the top. "So I got banned from HArdOCP" I think was the title.

I would never bash TPU.

I do think that was a relavent topic in the Gen Nonsense section though. I mean its good to know how one sided other forums can be. So other TPU members can be aware.

Exactly feel free to promote your feeling towards something, another review on another site, link to something, that's what it's all about.

The problem comes in when said like above, you start personal attacks and very negative direct comments.

We don't want to be seen as a forum that allows it's members to act immature, commit personal attacks, etc, it just looks bad, not only on us to other people browsing forums, but our sponsors among the hardware companies who's equipment W1z reviews for us.

The more I think about it...well I think I understand. Its easier to just close the possible flame thread then mod everyones posts and hand out infractions when closing it solves all these problems.

That is also what I am saying. We should be mature enough to critique other forums with out name calling...but I know that is not the case.

Exactly, plus this is a tech forum, not a winge forum, even if something another forum did, was unfair.

I have no reason to go on any other forums anyway, TPU ftw! :rockout: lol.

what some people actually dont like tpu?

blasphemy:mad:

do you mean like if you were to post a certain forum is good or bad?

i think if you told people to avoid a forum with valid reasons id be cool with it but thats up to the mods, for example just ranting about a forum probly wont be okay but giving real reasons like inaccuracy or biased or personal attacks and listing a few
