Ok I just got a BFG GTX 295, to replace my 4870X2 for my gaming rig. Then I got the XFX 4850 1GB for my HTPC, to replace my BFG 8800 GTX OC. I like NVIDIA and ATI both, I would say I like NVIDIA a little more for gaming. I love the HDMI audio that ATI has. I know the XFX 4850 1GB is a little over kill for a HTPC. Its because I use my HTPC for a Media Center/server/gaming rig. I have any older motherboard for my HTPC that uses PCI-E 1.0. How much of a hit will the XFX 4850 1GB take from PCI-E 1.0? Thanks to NewEgg screwing up so many times on the RMA of my 4870X2 I got free next day shipping. I will update when I get them both.

Nice cards. But what do you plan to do with the bfg 8800 and 4870x2?

The 4870X2 got RMA'd to NewEgg (long story) I ended up getting the BFG GTX 295. As for the BFG 8800 GTX I might use it for PhysX, or just end up selling it.

The PCIe 1.1 slot won't hurt the 4850 at all. Nice card for an HTPC, btw.

+1. I don't know why the OP is asking about video performance on an HTPC. He even said it was overkill, and it is even on an older pci-e slot.

Like I said before I use it for "gaming".
