Best Cooling Under $100?

Hey!

What is the best cooling available for LGA 775 processors? I'm talking performance, nothing else.

It doesn't matter how it does it (water, air, plutonium, etc.), as long as it does it for under $100, but the cheaper the better (I couldn't care less about 1 degree if there is a $20 price difference, etc.).

I'm sure there is a thread like this on TPU somewhere, but I could not find it.

I'm currently looking at the CoolIt Domino, but am not sure...

Coolit Domino for water and Xigmatek S1283 Dark Knight for air.

Plutonium for cooling...hmmm....

Xigmatek S1283 also, then Thermalright Ultra Extreme, both air. Mmmmaybe also the Thermalright IFX-14. I don't know about water cooling, but I doubt you'll get good performance for 100 bucks. I wouldn't trust it.

I'm pretty sure the Dark Night feature is all aesthetics and no performance. So just the s1283 would do but its not the best cooler. The TRUE beats it out most of the time and is around the same price range.

Water is out of the question unless you could get an amazing deal on preowned setup. A basic setup that is decent will run you at least $150~$200.

So I say get a TRUE or a S1283.

Actually, a few reviews show the Dark Knight is better than the S1283. I think it's because it's got different pipe locations.

EDIT:

as a test to the cooler and its STOCK CERAMIQUE TIM, I took my e5200 up to 1.5v and under orthos load didn't see above 63C, Celeron D 347 1.38v(netburst = hot hot hot) 67C load!

EDIT2:

Be aware thats with the STOCK fan turned down to its lowest possible RPM.

I wasn't planning on going with a water cooling setup, just considering the all in one type systems similar to those made by CoolIt...

Out of curiousity, what would be the best fan to use on a TRUE if considering performance/cost/loudness?

If you want good performance with as little noise as possible look to Noctua. If your case has the room the NH-U12P would be where I'd look.

Its a bit pricey but you get two fans that are extremely quiet under load, and a cooler that has been proven to do a good job.

My mistak the link above is to the 1366 kit. The LGA775 kit seems to only come with one fan

all in one cooling systems there are a few that are good but some are complete crap and are worse than a decent air cooler so watch out

I have the Thor, and the NH-U12P sitting on my shelf. I havent personally tested it yet, but from the performance I got with the 92mm version(Noctua), I'm going on a limb here and saying it should be close, and use a lot less noise to accomplish the low temps I get with the Thor.

Also the Thor is about $70 without a fan in the box at all!!!!

I love the sexyness of the Thor and if you get the right fans on it, it can be a monster, but I went quiet on my Thor for now and for the same noise level as the Noctua, these fans on medium on the Thor dont keep the numbers that low anymore.

S1283 is great for the money. I also like the Zalman 9500 and 9700 series coolers.

It's because it has a better fan... The heatsink itself is not as good.
It also comes with the bolt through kit.

But yes under $100, I would say the S1283/S1284 which you get a lot of mixed reviews from different people.
And not only between AMD and Intel chips.
