There is a video release and a major discussion on latency. My guess is this thing will hold it's weight.

I've never have had an issue with my PS3 with FPS. Yet I keep hearing about all these issue's that people have had, did I miss a memo on it or something?

It doesn't sound very cost effective at all. So, at the other end, they have to have a high performance computer setup dedicated to you, depending on how much you play, and a dedicated 4.5mb+ connection, also dedicated.

Saying that one setup caters to an average of 4 players/day, and each setup would have cost $1000, minus maintenance fees and internet fees, a subscription costing a hefty $30/month per the 4 people would get them $120 a month, requiring atleast 8 months to pay off each system, and, remember, this doesnt count any other fees associated, just the system itself.
Doesn't sound cost effective at all.
Then you run into internet latency, where on most systems where the average latency is ~100ms, depending on the length between, this would make the game entirely unplayable.

I have to agree. I've never had an issue with my PS3. Not with FPS, not with anything really. It's always worked as well as it did the day I got it.

Same here. I got some stuttering once while playing GTA IV, so I cleaned out the fans with some compressed air and it went away.

@OP... the only stretch will be with the speeds you need. 1.5Mb's for HD quality? That kind of connection is tough to come by, and even if you do have it, to have it keep steady at that speed is not easy. Time will tell on this though. Looks like it could be a great idea.

I saw the live conferance for Onlive, looks pretty good. Not really sure if it would end all consoles tho.

If you are used to playing games on the PC, PS3 framerates will make you throw up. Graphics look good for the hardware, but are getting dated when a 7900GS or any other $50 video card can give it a run for its money.

I play pc games all the time as well as PS3 and I have no idea what you are talking about.

PS3 runs awesome for me. I haven't played a single game yet that stuttered or had any fps dips. My PS3 always runs awesome.

hmmmm seems someone is a bit biased...

I agree that I see no difference between my PC and PS3. Simply because the PS3 games are optimized for their platform (like KillZone 2) Ported games will look better on a PC, but PS3 only games look just as good if not better than some PC games

Bandwidth was one of the issues, but no one asked them about how offline would work. All the games will be running off there server and saved on there servers and accessed by your Onlive account. So going offline would create a problem if you wanted to game on it.

If it takes off it could end alot of fighting between fanboys in terms of the console wars. But i doubt Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will let them take that huge of a bite out of the market, so they might show some interesting stuff at this years E3 to keep them on there side.

The idea is great. They are not the first. When the Iphone was out I remember a video on youtube of a dude playing WoW on iphone via streaming from the mainPC and over the net. But the lag would be untincable. Too much data transfer and they are going to need very very powerful servers.
