TRUE vs V10

As some of you may know, I want my i7 @ 4.0 stable 24/7 on air cooling. I figured it was near impossible since that's what I've been told by many people. I was browsing the web for some aftermarket coolers and I laid my eyes on the Cooler Master V8 and V10. Holy moly they're beautiful. I've always been interested in the TRUE, and I've actually ordered it off Newegg already. I should've done more homework before placing my order, because I so want the V8/V10 now that I've discovered it. I also had to order 2 fans for the TRUE at the expense of $20.

How does the V8/V10 compare to the TRUE? With the V10 I also get a RAM cooler, so that's a bonus! And will the V10 fit in a HAF 932/Antec 1200?

I'm pretty sure in a review comparison the TRUE beats out the V10, it's a great looking cooler but on the cost/performance the TRUE may win, but a Xig S1283 isn't far behind and is cheaper than both.

You'll have no issues with fitment case-wise, and I'm sure MB clearance is ok on the V10. I guess it depends on what you're after as-far-as cooling, I go for function over style, but many go for cool looks and less performance. Depending on what you do with the rig and whether or not you OC it and how far you OC it, that is a totally fine route. But the V10 is a very competent cooler overall, definately a beast!

Cost/looks is not a problem. I'm talking pure performance because I'm aiming to get my i7 970 to 4.0 on air.

I've heard of guys doing that with the Xig's (check out S1283 on budget and Thor's Hammer if budget doesn't matter), tbh the V10 looks great but I'm not sure how well it performs on the i7. I'd start with google searching and seeing what others have gotten w/that cooler.

oh come on... the V10 is too large and ALMOST matches the power of a TRUE for cooling. One day that thing will also get overloaded from the pelt not being able to handle the heat load of the i7 and then you'll have a smoking cooler that restricts what sort of ram you can use.

I actually checked out the reviews on Newegg and people have hit 4.0 stable with it maintaining low temps. I'm not too sure though. I did some Googling "V10 vs TRUE" and didn't come up with many reliable/hard facts/comparisons.

Here a comparison of lga1366 coolers.
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=88649
Those are Degrees Celcius over Ambient Temperature with a lapped i7 920.
The same 88cfm fan is used on all coolers and temps are monitored with the socket diode.
Got to point out those facts because obviously some people cannot read.

If you give the TEC the full power it needs and the fans full juice it gives you your moneys worth.

get the true or a zig, better performing, easier to set up, and less parts to worry about failing

From what i have read, the V8 is a couple of degrees below the TRUE, the V10 is a couple better than the TRUE, thing is, too many of these reviewers use too many different testing methods so accurate cross referenceable info is kind of hard to come by.

For me, i would take the safest bet, the TRUE and whack a couple of High CFM flows on her, if you can get a couple of lowish noise 60+ CFM fans, I reckon that would easily better the V10.

I'm planning on getting two Scythe Ultra Kazes on the TRUE. I've heard so much about lapping that I looked it up and figured out what it is. I don't want to void the hell out of my processor or HSF's warranty... would the TRUE be on par with the V10 without lapping?

Performance-wise, I don't think anybody can doubt the TRUE. I just want the best cooler for my soon-to-be burning chip, and if the V10 might give me better results, I'm returning the TRUE and getting the V10.

If you give the TEC the full power it needs and the fans full juice it gives you your moneys worth.

Ummm the TEC runs at 12V under load once a temperature value is reached, somewhere in the 40*C mark. The TEC runs at 7.5V when 25*C is passed.

What exactly is running the TEC at full power mean, as 12V is the limit of the TEC. More volts has lead to ppl frying their TEC's in $150 coolers.

@ stubbs. Tweaktown shows that on a TECC testing setup that the V10 beats out a TRU Black by almost 2*C.

I've decided to keep the TRUE. Yes, I've seen graphs of the Megahalems by Prolimatech, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. It's inexpensive and effective, the ideal cooler if availability weren't a problem.

and there are several reviews that show TRUE is better when max voltage is used than a Prolimatech as is a Noctua under under heavy voltage. Having said this they are all close. It just depends on the test and as you can see http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/core-i7-coolers-roundup_19.html#sect0 no air cooler can keep the I70 under load at 48c as this review that haunted keeps posting http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=88649 says. Why he keeps posting those results is anyone's guess. Those are socket temps haunted and they are not what you measure by.

The TRUE slightly beats the V8 once you get some fans on it. Just so you know the V8 fan sucks, most recommend replacing it with a higher CFM fan. Either way the TRUE wins.

As for the V10, comparisons with it and the TRUE are hard to find. It does beat most other air coolers though.
