They are not static. It's not related to lights, to direct lighting I mean, AO is a way to simulate indirect light (the one that comes after several reflections in walls, objects etc), so they won't move if the light sources change. But the shadows do move according to the geometry, if geometry changes the AO changes. Of course you won't see that looking at a wall. ;)

IMO AO adds a lot of realism to the scenes, after seing one scene with it enabled I can't stand watching at the one without. It looks like a 90's game after that. That being said the last time I checked the Nvidia AO feature through the CP it was almost unusable because of the performance drop, so it's pretty much a gimmick at this point. Unless 182.50 have dramatically improved the performance with AO enabled.



Yeah and in L4D your companions flashlights don't iluminate, blame the drivers. lol.

In relation to games, thats just a fancy way of saying its adding static lighting :p

yeah after an hour of playing with it, its not that great :nutkick:... especially in L4D when it adds static shadows even when your'e shining the the flashlight on an object. *SiGh*... got excited :slap:.

Can you PM screenies? From what I'm hearing, it's not a bug. When shining a flashlight on an object with a shadow from another lightsource, the old shadow won't magically disappear. Take two flashlights and some object. A ball or a cup or some other thing. Have one flashlight laying and pointing at the object and play with the other flashlight. No matter where you put it, there will always be two shadows as there are two light sources.

Maybe to someone with no knowledge, but no, it's not even remotedly related. In fact where most noticeable is AO is in objects and models, moving objects and models. It makes a huge difference in characters. Without it they look like flat 2D magazine clipping glued there. And almost every object in the ground, including character's feet, look as if they were hovering. Normal shadows don't fix that but AO does, because it adds a subtle shadow accent all around the object like it happens in real life and not jst in light's opposite direction.

If thats the case, prove it. Upload a vid somewhere of this magical nvidia effect in action. From what I have seen, it very much just adds shadows to corners of things which means theres nothing dynamic about this effect at all.

From what you have interpreted you mean. What you have seen is AO which has nothing to do with static shadowing. I have nothing to prove BTW, it's not my job. Also I already said I don't have Vista. Here's some videos you could have found yourself anyway:

GTX275 is single GPU, the 295 isnt on that chart at all. pretty even imo.

No. It just has drivers already.

That sounds like the same crack MS ended up in with their "Ready for Vista" laptops and desktops form OEM partners. If nvidia uses the "Ready for Windows 7" as a form of advertisement and does not have a DX11 compatable card they are asking for a lawsuit. Unless they plan on going the software compliant route......;)
