here in australia we pay threw the @ss for hardware, theres a 50 dollars difference between the both -- the Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 DOMINATOR being 50 dollars more.

and still ummming and arrhhring over whether ill be OCing the ram or leaving it stock timings, i personally like the DOMINATOR.

I'm personally going with the 1600 Dominator's. I like the timings a bit better than the other Corsair's and generally the Dominator line are hand pick IC chips for ultimate preformance.

Considering you're using a very, very top of the line X58 board, there's no reason not to get the OC supreme Dominator DDR3 for $50 more...

wrong... his board is the SAME as a ud3 for OCing practically... a DFI DK (250$ USD) probably would OC better

What I want to say is there is no top of the line x58 board... 99% of the boards are top of the line... also, here at least, 80$ ram can get you the specs of that Dominator easy

I never said it was a better OC'er.

Consider my reference of "top of the line" as a synonym for expensive. He isn't pairing the memory up with a sub-$200 X58 board.

If you're going to go with a pricey motherboard, you might as well splurge on some pricey memory.

I fully understand your point of spending less and getting the same or better performance, as higher priced parts. No argument there...

We're talking $50. He's already invested in the EX58-Extreme, for a sizable amount.

I'm guessing he's not fretting over the difference in price, rather he's just looking for a few opinions on the (possible) performance benefits of the more expensive kit...

but isn't the extreme only 50$ more than a ud4 or 5? investing in a mobo is a lot more important than RAM... there is a difference between spending 20% more for a mobo and 40+% more for RAM

just IMO... I'm obsessed with bang/buck soooo... :)

Like I figured, you're laying out quite a bit of cash for that setup.

In the end the two memory kits aren't all that different. The Dominators have slightly tighter timings; marginally faster in synthetic benchmarks, almost no difference in real world testing.

The maximum stable frequency possible would most likely be higher with the Dominators, on the order of (50-150MHz - horrible guesstimate).

Whether or not that's worth the extra $70 AUD is up to you. They're both great kits though, so you can't go wrong either way.

My opinion is that since you've already piled on the expenses, the extra dosh for the Dominators seems quite insignificant.

But as n-ster said, you might get similar performance out of the cheaper kit, while saving a bit of money.

So many choices...

cheers for all your comment, im grateful...

i should have stated the difference in price really wasn't much of an issue, since ive layed out the cash.....it was really more of a " what would the majority choose" question, with out getting to super technical, since im aware they are similar in technical specification.
i felt it would good idea to get few opinions....

Ive ordered the DOMINATOR ;)
