Hey everyone, I was wandering what is a safe overclock for my 8800 GT Alpha Dog? The cooler for my card is a Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2 + Twin Turbo Module... This is the stock settings... 600 MHz Core, 1500 MHz Shader and 1800 MHz Memory... What would you say is a very safe and reasonably good overclock for it with my cooler on it? And would 2000 MHz memory be safe or not? I heard it can damage the card? But correct me if I'm wrong...

Would this be an okay overclock? Please give me as helpful information as possible as I dont want to destroy or deep fry my graphics card and eat it... 700 MHz Core, 1700 MHz Shader and 2000 MHz Memory

Safe? It is, with GFX's it is usually ok since you are not increasing voltage or anything like that, just raising the frequency, only concern should be artifacting and heat.

Get Riva Tuner or EVGA Precision and go in game, do like half an hour of intense gaming, then minimize and see what was the highest temprature recorded.

i ran all 6 of my 8800gt's at 740mhz core. without looking at the screenshots i cant remember the other clocks though.

good cooling is key.

WTF, How are some 8800 GT reaching 20,000 3DMARK06 Score... That's seriously some fucked up shit... Some extreme overclocking there, how the f*ck did they manage to get 800+ core without frying up there cards :S

Hahahaha thats awesome :D... But I aint got the money to spend on "extreme stuff" haha :L... Ill probably just use this clock for my card. 700/1700/2000 core/shader/memory ^_^

I got mine up to 810Core with some v-modding. But air cant handle it, the thing was getting toasty. I should have it up to 850Core by this weekend now that I got some WC:D

Not a bad score for a outdated GFX card.

BTw @ OP, on air with no Vmod's. You should be able to hit 740-750 on the core, and depending on what memory IC you have 2000MHZ shouldnt be a problem. As for the shader, figure that one out.

EDIT: I just noticed Fitseries isnt OBAMA anymore..

You should be able to do that pretty easily. I have a few 8800GT's folding at 700/1780/1900. I don't push the core and memory much, the shader clock is what matters with folding.

So are you still folding for XS(if you were before)? You should join the TPU gang for the interm! :toast:

I have all my cpu's on the TPU wcg team, but all my gpu's are still with XS.

eh, i wouldn't take what anyone tells you you can oc to. each chip is different. i had 2 8800GT's, though never used the 2nd one much cause i loaned it to my bro and got it back only to find i needed to downclock it for stability. But on my 8800GT that i did get to use, i only remember like 685 on core, lower 19XX on memory, and like 16XX for shaders(it's been half a year). Every chip is different. the question your should be asking is how to correctly overclock your card. that is the only way you will find the max stable oc, not by just going into to riva tuner or nvidia control panel and setting those clocks and hoping it is stable.

Try to mimic the OC version clocks, you should be able to do that NP.

Thanks for the comments, I dont want to mod it cause In my oppinion, I find it a bit too risky at times :L... So I'll stick with the clocks I chose ^_^... Thanks guys
