Will running my Corsair dominators without the cooling fans be dangerous???

I Have a paired set of 2x2Gb Corsair Dominators DDR2 PC2-8500 running in my rig at 480Mhz 5-5-5-18-2T unganged each.

They came with active cooling fans and I recently got an RMA for the fans because they make noise in colder temperatures, an annoying buzzing sound.

I was just wondering if it would be safe to run them with my games at their current clock speeds (no stress testing) while I await the new set of fans??

Any opinions?

get a cheapo thermometer and see what the temps are at idle

as long as you dont overvolt the memory a lot it will be fine.

Obviously they're designed to operate just fine without the fans.

When you're going for very tight timings or very high frequencies (or both), that's when the lower temps the fans provide, will come into play.

Yeah you'll be fine. How high can you get them? Still testing but just got a pair of those and so far running at 564 (1128) 5-5-5-18 PL6 with only 2.2v. Average 9600 read. Not bad sticks.

it would be fine... I'm running mine @ 500mhz and without any fans cooling them. though they are @ 1.8v

Yeah, for some reason I can only get them to 480 (960) @ 5-5-5-18. Any higher I become unstable but I think that is more due to my Mobo or CPU. My CPU won't allow me past 260fsb or 14.5x multi. But at the current settings they're still good sticks!!

Now their fine, they have decent heatspreders on them anyway you'll be golden.

The fan is nice but a bit loud as 3x5krpm fans whirl up quickly, I about lost a finger once!

Dominators FTW, and running without the cooling fans are fine just as long as you dont go berserk with them and start modding them to a bitch

Yeah, I'm really happy with them....they are the first paired hi performance sticks I've owned so I don't have any experience with any other brands. So far i'd go corsair again because RMA for the fans was a breeze and their customer service is the bomb!! :rockout:

Those heatsinks are solid on these sticks man

I picked some Dominators over the weekend 2x1GB 1066, this sticks running @800 4-4-4-10-11 1T 2.2V havent tweaked them much but they are running tight timings ATM :toast:

Nice!! And if you run into any problems with them you can count on awesome customer service from them...at least IMO and from my experience.

The Dominator PC8500 2x2GB sticks were unstable in my MB. DFI P45 JR T2RS

I think the fan is there because of how hot they get. Might be safe to under clock your RAM some while you wait for the fan replacement.

What ratio and FSB speed?

You shouldn't have to run these sticks@ 2.2v @ stock FSB speeds.

2.2 volts will generate heat and if you can run your RAM at lower voltage your system will be more stable. Unless of course your RAM will not boot up at your FSB speed settings.

I'll add that your system specs board shows that you are running Geil RAM.

I'm running Patriot Vipers right now because I couldn't get my Dominator PC8500 2x2GB sticks from crashing when gaming.

They do have great customer service. Too bad the 2x2GB PC28500 didn't work out for my MB.
