I'm looking for a set of good 5.1 Speakers, with a digital plug, 3.5mm. Anyone have a recommendation?

Currently using some Logitech's X-530's's they were 80 bucks back in the day, but i was looking at the following:

Logitech G51

But I can't tell if there is a digital plug. Anyone have any other recommendations?

I'll go to 7.1 speaker's as well.

Wow man those Onkyo's are nuts! I'm running the Klipsch for my home theater but wow.

I don't have the optical cable port on my Sound Card, I have the Digital 3.5mm Jack. I have on-board optical on my On-board that I could use, but I would much rather use the card that I have.

I'm not much for onboard either. Those are the more low end onkyo btw. They cost like $600 at ncix, where as the S9100 costs $1300. They're cheaper in the states .

I dont know speakers off the top of my head that comes with that kind of port.

Nope it's the 3.5mm jack look's just like a headphone jack..

Same card I have the Blue jack is the 3.5mm Digital I/O port. But I can't find a set of speaker's that uses it or find an adapter..

I'm wondering if I'd be better off slapping a different card in, that has the Optical Port.

you'd be better off getting a diff sound card
plenty of speakers have either the optical or coax digital, but you'd be hard pressed to find some with the 3.5mm jack

ohh and I'd get the Z5500 over the g51s

the Z5500's are good but anyone will tell you that they are fairly expensive for what they are. but if you can afford it then they are great (the subwoofer is like twice the size of my Antec 902 lol)

But many will say money is better spent on some decent bookshelf speakers & 1 Hifi amplifyer unit - that will sound alot better then the z5500's. or that was what was said to me at least

I'd rather not buy a new sound card, especially since it still work's without a problem. Is there a decent Asus or Auzentech for around $100 bucks that includes the optical jack? All the one's I've seen just have the coaxial In/Out.

optical in and out. It's a nice sound card. Auzentech is better, but no optical ports.

But yeah get a new sound card. With that one port you wont experience 5.1 in the way with green/orange/black would.

So your saying Green/Orange/Black is better? But that isn't digital is it? I always thought the green/orange/black were analog plugs.

They are analog, but they're the exact same 3.5 mini plug as the blue digital one. Digital out just crams more channels i believe into one.

Yeah. If you are going to have a speaker setup like that, it's best to have a good soundcard.

for speakers - if your happy to spend money on the logitech G51's id say go for it. from what i heard they offer excellent sound quality for what you pay for.

I was thinking about going with them, they seemed like a good bet. But I was hoping for the same quality from something a bit cheaper. But it's tough to find 5.1 that are good and or decent for 100 bucks or even 120. And for 160 they look good and get good reviews.

What would I need if I wanted to grab some bookshelf speakers and roll with those to attach to a sound card? An amp, or run it to a receiver?

Yeah should be able to with the Optical to a Reciever then just change the option on a receiver..I'm guessing it should work!

Haha, I guess you could assuming you have the right outputs and inputs.

Might be something I'll have to try. My dad bought some nice speakers for me for my room at his house to use for my DVD player, but my TV has decent speakers so I guess I could steal it and bring it over to my mom's where my rig is and test it out. It has a subwoofer too .

it works. for a long time a few years back before i could afford a decent speaker kit. that how i ran it. Picked up a extremely old Amp unit & some speakers. unfortunately the amp was so old it didnt support a subwoofer.

Im no expert in this field, however there are a few Audiophiles here at TPU that know about all that stuff if your still interested. im sure they could give you a little advice on what type & which brand of amp/reciever etc etc to buy. but for simplicity the G51's cant go wrong. you get what you pay for.
