So i didn't know where else to post this but anyways here goes. Right now i work as a teller at a bank and its soo boring. All i do is go on this website an dplay my psp all day. So i was looking to get into IT and i applied for this tech support job.
I went for the interview and was told this computer wont boot up, make it boot into windows. So all the normal things were wrong; loose ram, wrong hdd plugged in, power strip off lol, bad video card. The one thing i messed up on was the stupid power supply voltage. I never knew what that fricken red switch on the power supply was and of course that was on the wrong setting. Needless to say im pretty sure i didnt get the job.

Ouch. So you were in Amrica and had it set to 220v or over here in Europe and set it to 110v? If latter it must have given you quite the scare when it blew up

But if it was just for that maybe you'll get the job anyways... Who knows, perhaps the other candidates went as far as to break something...

Ya hopefully...The video card was bad and it took me a sec to figure out that onboard video is disabled when a card is in the pciexpress slot lol. But, ya he said some of the other people have never opened a computer before.

i just cant believe someone else uses the same hiring technique that i used to use.

the only downside was how many generic PSU's we went through.

That's almost a trick question though. Switching the voltage on the PSU is something that NEVER happens in the real world. That is PC sabotage .

oh shit, ill do that next time. thanks for the idea.

We had a power failure at a lan, and someone yelled at "hey is this red switch a fuse? should i flip it?" someone yelled a reply "dont flip the red switch". A few minutes of silence in the dark, power comes back... three PSU's spew out smoke. You can guess who didnt hear the reply.

That red switch thing is kind of a bs question because most power supplies don't even have that anymore, they use some sort of voltage detection system that tells the power supply what voltage outlet it is plugged into.

I would prefer something a bit harder, like a bootvirus and multiple infections on top of a system clogged and overheating.

a whole new group of people had turned up for their first lan, with their parents dells and HP's.
After the explosions, not many came back next lan.

Not sure I understand the switch on the PSU bit?

if you set the red switch on the back of the psu to the wrong voltage for your region, it goes boom!

hahahhaha, that sucks for them. Who brings a dell to a lan :shadedshu lol. We don't even have lan's here really, used to with just me, my bro, and some buddies. town is too small and not tech savy at all. i had to explain to my pc repair teacher last year the difference between PCI and AGP as he kept bringing me a PCI card when i was asking for an AGP lol

What perfect timing for this to come up. Just the other day my friend thought he had fried is PSU, he came to me and was like I flipped this thing back and forth and got nothing. Then I told him that if it wasn't the PSU, it is now :). Luckily it was already toast so no harm done hah.
