S-IPS (or S-PVA), despite what you may hear, aren't the end all be all of monitors. TN's have gotten just as good in many aspects. It just depends on what you're doing. Never heard of Double Sight, but that does seem like a pretty decent deal, TN, S-IPS or whatever. If you're going into graphic design or what have you that would be quite good. Even for moderate gaming or movies t'would be nice.

im pretty anal about color, however, I do want something that isn't going to ghost too noticeably. I really need to upgrade to an LCD, having a 19" monitor that can do just about every standard non-widescreen res. is great, but... yeah. I was thinking about going with a S-PVA monitor just because it seems like a good middle ground, but, I'm open to other possibilities. If TN panels can stack up to the good 26" S-PVA or H/S-IPS monitors, show me which ones to look at!

Well if accurate color is your aim then the S-panels are your game. Some just seem to always neglect TN altogether is the only reason I mentioned it. That's really the only major area where they are still lacking (along w/ viewing angle), but for the average person it isn't really great enough to notice in most situations. If you're anal about color though, I would say you may have found a good one. Try to find out who makes that, and I would probably get a warranty w/ newegg (it's cheap enough that shouldn't hurt) so if something goes awry you're covered. I highly doubt you'd have to worry about any ghosting @ 5ms, but again if you're picky.......

I'm just surprised how cheap it is though. Even the original price for the size is good. Yes I am fairly picky about color as I do some photography. I need to have something that can use 8-bit color without dithering, so real 16.7mil. Can you recommend any good S-PVA monters in this range? My fear is that the monitor is a pile of shit, yeah it's sips but a defective product is a defective product. Plus the response time, correct me if I am wrong but don't the S-IPS panels have the worse timings?

TN panels cannot stack up, period. No if, ands, or buts.

DoubleSight generally uses LG or Samsung panels. Judging by the fact this is S-IPS, my money is on LG.

yeah just checked some reviews and it seems to be an LG panel. But, it seems these are quite shoddy compared to other monitors in the IPS range. Honestly, I've been reading some bad reviews about this monitor on the interwebs for about 30 minutes. Although the specs look good on paper, RWP dictates it's just not good quality. Now, I think I really have my heart set on a S-PVA 26" monitor. Wile E, I know you rant and rave about that Westinghouse monitor. Any chance the 26" models are S-PVA panels as well?

Nope. They're TN. And this 24" is actually an MVA panel. Basically the same principle tho. Not quite as nice as a good Samsung S-PVA, but a damn site better than any Tn. Whatever monitor you grab, I highly suggest buying a colorimeter for calibrating it, if you are a color hound. I have a Spyder2Express, but I found a way to make it a SPyder2Pro.

Can I ask why a 26" tho? Pixel pitch would be much better with a 24", giving a sharper and clearer image at the same view distance.

It IS a IPS panel. Its main flaw is it does not have a 1:1 mapping.
How important is that to you?

And 1:1 mapping doesn't matter anymore, as both nVidia and ATI have perfectly working 1:1 scaling in their drivers.

Agree 100%. It took ATi a few years to get it there, but their scaling works perfectly now (better than Nvidia IMO, as nvidia wont do scaling on my HDTV, while ATI does)

Agreed that they arent as good, but they are nowhere near as far behind as they were 12 months ago.

My issue with the scaling is that it doesnt work unless your monitor is at maximum resolution. For my screen thats 1080i... which is not what i run it at, so scaling doesnt work.
