GTX 275 or GTX 260?

i'm getting a pc soon
going to be doing some 1680x1050 or maybe 1920x1080 gaming
would a GTX 260 be sufficient?
or should i wait for DX11 cards

I do not know what you are running now (system specs would help)...But I am waiting for next gen cards...no matter haw tempting that 1Ghz 4890 is

But to answer your questions...260 is sufficient...but 275 has more balls. :roll:

(My ATI radar says 4890 over both though)

My 2 cents...Drop the 920 for a 940BE, go with a AMD 790FX/GX chipset, and an ATI HD4890 or 5xxx if you can wait. Good case choice, RAM & PSU choices...Grab a couple of Seagate 7200.12 single platter HDDs and you are set. Just my 2 cents. (I am an AMD/ATI fanboy

don"t buy phenom II 920 buy the 940 is the same price and is unlocked better overclocking etc.
Find a cheap gtx 260 216 55nm , is enough.

i dont intend on overclocking though :/
i won't see that massive gains in performance however
i'm gonna downgrade the GTX 275
and get a OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w PSU instead

EDIT: 920 and 940BE are SAME price.. so i'll get that instead

I would stick with the Corsair PSU...You can't go wrong...Though the OCZ is pretty sick.

i might consider overclocking.. but only tiny amounts (say..3.0ghz to 3.2)

Yea, the gtx260;s for the price are the steal of the week,
even those (192) ones that you can get for 130 around,
it's a great card for 1680x1050 :rockout:

If you only have $150 go with the 260 but I personally am a huge fan of the 275. At $240ish it crushes any card in the same price range. Look at the performance compared to the 280's, and at $50 less!

I will definitely agree there, I can run anything and everything with some eye candy on at 1680x1050.

with easy games (less GFX involved) a GTS 250/8800GTS would be fine, but a year goes by fast, more effects are included each new game...192SP 260 is same price as 216SP...no brainer there, bury the 192SP. 275 (240SP) or 260 (192-216SP)...more effects guys...275 is 30% more expensive ? each 260 oc nearly 30% also... if you have moolah, get the 275

Most games now are using DX10, when it was first released Crysis was the only one at the time. Most games now still offer a DX9 or 10 mode.

I dont know what DX11 would bring...DX10 vs DX9 on DX10 card/OS: shadows, lightning, smoke etc more prominent, but no big deal IMO! DX10 first took a huge amont of performance in games, later (today) it's OK, I can't see why it cant be the same when DX11 comes.

more gaming, more effects, more fun...more money, more hardware changes.....nvidia and intel..start to hate them

If you're not a clocker/bench jockey honestly I doubt you'll see the benefits of going ddr3.

The 260 will be plenty of oomph for 1680x1050.

And 1920x1080 I might add, I have gamed at both resolutions on my GTX260 since last July, it's been an amazing card, and the price point is just amazing tbh. Considering the GTX260 192sp started at over 400 bucks US almost a year ago, I snagged one for about 230 after MIR on the 'egg last July, been folding and gaming with it OC'd ever since, still even on stock cooling which does a damn fine job. The GTX260 makes a great gaming card at a solid value, definately something worth looking into. Most are solid overclockers, stock cooling performs quite well, drivers are pretty good overall, the HD series is also good, but I'm just speaking from what I know...I chose the GTX over the HD4870 last year, and I'm still glad I did, nv did a good job but both were very competetive this generation, hopefully that continues!
