Today a player created new world record of W3540.Frequency reaches 5.69GHz.Because it is mainly used in server field, its overclocking performance will be better than common Core i7.

the point is that a server nehalem is way out of the reach of most people at this time.

world record is 8.8Ghz i beleave on a P4 (give or take 100Mhz)

I guarantee not the highest for Nahalem - I see plenty of higher speeds - all 'n all not that great as its just a clock record... do a ton of tweaking and benches then I'll see how it is

i read in a evga classified review that said that a 5+GHZ i7 cpu would pull about 500w-600w and that is why that board has 2 EPS connectors.

what the heck do you mean by player - its not Street Fighter or anything :slap:

Its OPB - I hardly find this surprising and figure that he has backups no doubt with higher frequencies :rolleyes: :cool:

Thats not possiable. the CPU would need 15gauge power lines running to it... and a 10, 000 BTU air conditioner cooling it...

I'm not sure on the actual numbers for the power consumption but i cant see it being over 100watts... (this is a VERY high estimate)

That review is flawed then as Watts are not a measure of current....

So by that token that motherboard and an i7 CPU machine would need a 1200Watt PSU since the CPU would be pulling 500.

my Q6600 at 3.6Ghz consumed approx 160W. i dont find it hard to think a CPU with an extra CPU lane and 4 HT 'cores' could use 200W+ at the same clocks.

at 5GHz, an i7 would consume a hell of a lot of power. thats LN2 cooling territory, which means 350W+ at least.

How was that measured?

turned it to 1.2GHz at 1.1v and measured idle wattage, and then OC'd it to 3.6GHz and compared. there was a 160W difference in power consumption at the wall. (same ram + NB voltages were applied)

160watts? wow... i wounder what the stock consumption is.... I'm looking around on the Intel site and cant track it down.

Q6600 has a 95W TDP.


50% overclock used 50% more power from the TDP, so while i didnt do extensive testing i beleived it to be accurate.

Why is that? The cheapest ones are cheaper than the cheapest desktop counterparts, motherboards are quite cheap as well and there are no annoying memory requirements.

Why is that? The cheapest ones are cheaper than the cheapest desktop counterparts, motherboards are quite cheap as well and there are no annoying memory requirements.

The cheapest Xeon core i7 equivelents have lower mutipliers, and since most boards can only handle 220-240 BCLK, enthusiast don't want those chips. The Xeon 920 and 940 equivelents are more expensive than the 920 and 940. As far as boards go, if you want an enthusiast class server board, it is significantly more expensive than i7 boards, at least it appears that way from the little research I've done.

that i beleive more. none of my systems ever passed the 400W load mark, until i went crossfire.

This 600W figure was probably the entire system.

Another of the unique Classified features is the implementation of dual 12v+ EPS connectors capable of supplying the CPU with up to 600W of power. For air and water users this is going to be overkill and a single connector is more than enough, but when pushing i7 processors north of 5GHz under LN2 cooling, that second connector will become a saving grace for supplying clean and steady vCORE.

i think it really uses that power unde 5ghz+, not 600w but if the mobo can supply that only to the cpu, then it should have some part of truth the fact that uses 400w+
