That article should have start with 3dfx VooDoo 1. That was the real revolution in the PC industry. I remember all those games were pixelated, no hardware acceleration, no nothing. When the VooDoo was first introduced it was such a shock that I don't think that will be anything like it for long years to come. If you can find same early comparison samples in games like Quake, Quake 2, Unreal, Tomb Rider etc, you will be amazed by the difference that board made. ;)

That ATI time line sucks ass for the Radeon based cards. It goes something like this

High End
1.ATI radeon (was the first card named this, but after 1999 with bad drivers they did this)
2,ATI radeon 8500 the updated radeon Not the start at 7500 bozo (this was late 1999 i remember buying my Voodoo2 and seeing it on the shelf)
Now 2000
High End And low end cards came
1,The infamous 9700
Low end
1,the infamous 9500 in early 2000

In the fall they upped the anti with
High End
1,9700 Pro
Low end
1,9500 pro
Now to the Spring of 2001
High end
1,9800 Pro
then the 9800 Xt with the 9600 xt at the fall release in 2001( Remember this and my 9600xt is copy right 2001) Was the release with the Black Box and Half Life 2 free (September was the month Valve had the server were the game was hacked.....All of us that bought the cards had to wait until 2003 for its release

After that ATI went for the holes with the renamed 9700-9500 cards with the 7500 and the 7500le SE

Then the x800 ,x1800 ,the x1900 ,AMD buys them out in 2004-05 And then they hurried the ill fated x2900 ,And they gained up with the 3870,3870x2,then the 4870 and 4850, not the 4850x2-4870x2 first like the article leads you to believe.

Mechwarrior too :).

The S3 card is the newer one as the ram modules are not upgradeable. It was great how you could go out buy ram for them at 1\2meg a time hahaha.

EDIT: Wish i kept my Voodoo1 and 3 still have my voodoo 5500 :).. The Matrix cards sucked ass for games back then.

OOh the memory's.

The vacume is there because the 5800 is infamous for its noise.

huh, was all ati then wasn't aware of that.

but yeah certain specs are wrong like clock speeds for isntance the 9800xt was 412mhz core 365(730)MHZ memory, they have the 9800 pro 256mb speeds listed for it at 380/350(700)

also the 9000 and 9100 launched with the 9700 and 9500 in 2002 as an 8500 rebadge not in 2003 as they put.

and all in all it's misses several cards from each generation fx5700 and 5900 aren't even mentioned. as said above they skipped the 9500 and 9700 non pros that launched prior to the pros, 9600 is missing and they didn't mention the 9200 (which was the 2nd rebadge of the 8500 so nv isn't the only one to do this). skipped rage fury and went straight to fury maxx, so it's asmall synoptsis, but definetly not enough information to call it a history.

Say thanks for that ,I for the life of me could not remember the year on the x800,They went straight to the x1800 right after which was left off that list too.X800 was the last AGP-First PCIE cards.

Also it must of been the non pros in 01-02 then the 9700 pro and 9500 pro -non pro that we could flash to 9700 .
