ECS (+ 65$ in my pockets) or gig ud5?

He can definitely sell that for <$240 if it is a proven OCer. It might not be in here but other forums, consider it sold for $210-$240.

That is what I was thinking... but in that case, wouldn't it be better to just keep it? or is it worth the risk to buy a D0? maybe he could even do a little bit of profit huh? but I think I would like to know if D0 is usually better than this chip or not...

to me if its proven to overclock, id say keep it because the first batch of D0s may not even overclock worth a damn, beyond that when something is opened its value goes down very quickly.

well, if you go yourself and choose I think so... and Microcenter has most D0s but not all I believe...

That's a good question, and even with DO's there is no promise of a good overclock. For instance, my first CO was a much better overclocker that my first DO, and it stayed much cooler. My new DO is the best of all the chips I've had. So, it's really a role of the dice. That's what makes i7 unique. You can't depend on anything like batch numbers etc. You are almost better off looking for used chips that have shown to be good OC'ers and snag them. As for the chip he already has, 4.2ghz on 1.4v and NOT bench stable isn't a great sign. I'd probably selling it and buy another, if it was me.

If it was OCCT stable with reasonable temps, that would make it a decent chip.
