Pretty much as title says. I know this system is way more then I will ever need, but I'm getting a lot of it for free with Graduation money, so I figured I might as well go way, way, overboard. Excuse the lack of thermal paste and hard drive, I have those at home

Really, all I need to know is if all this stuff is compatible. I checked all the obvious stuff, but my big concern is if my whole HSF thing will work. I am using a HDT heatsink, with a 1366 bracket. I did check out XIGMATEK's page for the bracket, and although the web site doesn't say it will work with the HSF I chose, the PDF on the bottom does, plus someone on Newegg claims to have it working. I originally had a cooler that was compatible with the i7 out of the box, but I feared it would be too tall for the CM Storm Scout. I will not be overclocking.

The other thing was the EATX 12V extension I am using. The motherboard only has a 8 pin socket, but there is a removable plastic cap over the other 4 pins. I was just going to take the cap off, and run the extension cable straight in there. They don't connect those extra 4 pins to ground, do they? I would assume those other pins would just be not connected, and the full 8 pin connector is there so that if your PSU doesn't have a EATX 12V connector that splits, you are still ok. Am I right?

why not tri-channel ram ? if you cant afford 6gb go with 3gb for now and get another 3gb when you can afford it thats what im doing, other than that its not too bad, although if you can afford it also maybe stretch to at least a HD 4770 as the perf is awesome for not much more $ and a lot better than the 4670

Looks like a decent kit, but why the hell are you getting a 4670 with an i7? Get at the least a GTX 260/4870.

probably on a tight budget hence i mentioned the 4770

and the 2nd one XIGMATEK ACK-I7363 has a review stating it is compatible with the HDT-S963

looks fine to me unless someone knows otherwise, apparently theres not much of a diff between ddr3@ 1333 and ddr3 at say 1800 bandwidth wise and most of it oc's fairly decent anyway

why go with a pII when he wants i7 its newer tech and its the "must have" right now

anyway it wont take much to save for a better card later down the line, this is how i normally do my upgrades if i want the new tech i'll sacrifice on hdd, gpu etc and then upgrade again at a later date, makes sense to me as hardware can easily be sold on again at not much of a loss

I looked again at those two bracket, and one is advertised as specifically for the S963. I'm just going to go with that one. I think the guy who reviewed the other one accidentally reviewed the wrong item.

he didnt say it was for gaming tho i was just saying he obviousley wants to go down the i7 route so instead of regretting it later on if he went with a pII he could sacrifice on the gpu and 3gb ram for now and always upgrade again at a later date on a smaller scale, besides its still going to pwn his meagre x1650xt and play all of todays games well

I will probably upgrade again, to 6GB of ram, and maybe a raid array of hard drives, but for now, this is good.

well your right and from what i know the i7's have higher memory bandwidth than the p II's due to triple channel and that will help a lot with cpu crunching tasks not too mention hyper threading which does help in multi threaded programs

That's pretty much what I gather too. As long as it is faster with massive zip archives, that's all I care about.
