Poll: FPS Wide or Normal (w/ High End Graphics Cards)

What do you think is better for First Person Shooters w/ High end Graphics Cards...
Widescreen or Normal 4:3.

I am talking High Resolutions above 1400's like 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 and Higher.
I am also talking X1900 series and 7900 series cards. Mid and low range need not report.

I play BF2, HL2 Source Games, and FEAR Combat. Right now at 1440x900 but going to 1600s as soon as I choose if my new LCD will be widescreen or normal.

off topic but why you getting a new screen? you find yours to small? I might get a 20 in widescreen samsung 5 ms with my nexted paycheck, they got a 22 inch widescreen out now aswell but its prob to expencive for me .

I run all my games at 1920x1200 with settings maxed with this x1900xtx, everthing works great, could never go back to the square that is my old crt

I am getting a new screen because I can't stand running games at 1440x900 knowing my new card can pust 1680x1050 w/ max settings.

Also I will be gone for most of Sept and all of Oct. So if I sell my screen this week and pay off my CC. My wife will be off my back for 2 months. Then when I get back in Nov if I still need a widescreen I can get one w/ my wife's blessings after I save up for it vs. spending on a Credit Card.
"Believe me this makes sence if you are married." I have been married 5 years this month and I still plan on staying this way for the rest of my life (or her's).

I will check probally get a new display in NOV06 around $350 delivered to go w/ whatever card I get from eVGA on the trade up program. I hope BF2142 supports widescreen.

Judas 20" is nice I only have a 19" now but I can see where the extra inch would look nice.

I have only 17 " its way too small i have seen a 1680x1050 Samsung SyncMaster 205BW 20" for 393 e the higher res one s seem to cost more...(1600x1200)

So how does that scale down on lower resoltuoins? like say 1680x1050 and 1440x900.

Some games by default only allow say a max of 1600x1900, tho if i can i never play at these resolutions. As for ghosting or lag, I can honestly say its crisp clean and responsive. However, ENABLE VSINC, otherwise you get horrible tearing, really horrible. But then if ur card can support those resolutions vsinc should be enabled reguardless.

Best money i ever spent, plus i can watch movies through my stand alone dvd player in picture in picture or split screen while using my pc, and the monitor has multiple data card readers built in too, which is great. Oblivion at 10:16 1920x1200 is awsome, just breathtaking, and lower rez games look great reguardless.

Id definitly give this monitor (Dell Dell 2407WFT) a good 9/10. and watching DVDs full screen is wonderful

Widescreen because you can see more the enemies comming by from the sides. Also, you get more immersion into the game. But I'm talking like 30+ inches. Not worth putting my 21" in widescreen, I'll waste room top and bottom for nothing.

I play CS:S on my Samsung 50" DLP 1080P, at 1920x1080P @ 60Hz. Runs great with 40+ FPS, but too bad it can't run Call of Duty 2 or Oblivion, but it's great for an X800XL!

I heard things about not all games supporting widescreen monitors...so I think I'd take a VX922 (that fancy 19" Viewsonic with 2ms response times) over a 20" Samsung widescreen with 5ms response times.

For the games that don't support widescreen, don't put their resolution in widescreen, but the game will look a little stretched, not really widescreen.

Not true - with a command line tweak you can get BF2 running on widescreen just fine. I run it at 1680 x 1050 and absolutely love it. Sites like www.widescreengamingforum.com can help with a variety of games, as quite a few do need tweaking to run in widescreen.

Still, switching from a 17" Iiyama LCD to a Viewsonic 20" widescreen is the best thing I've done for ages, I'd never to back to a "regular" monitor!

im talking about native support, sure, like q4 you can alter the rez and change the aspect ratio and field of view to make it support widescreen, but i was just refering the game as it is

still, i think its silly that Q4, prey etc etc dont come with native widescreen support, and you have to dig about and do it yourself, the same with prey not have ultramode support by default. You gotta edit the cfg file to disable texture compression etc for those with 512mb cards..

You're absolutely right, BF2 has no native support - I misunderstood what you meant

And it's indeed a shame that modern games that promote their eye-candy should not support native widescreen, surely that would make the experience even more impressive?

Since moving to widescreen 3 months ago I've decided not to purchase games that do not support this; sure I represent a small percentage, but it makes me feel waaay better knowing they will listen eventually...
