Steam Fail Connecting and now INstalling

Ok so New gateway laptop I run L4D It works fine. Then one day it just decides not to connect. I join the lobby all is well and when the game goes to load I get connection failed ten times. So it turns out I can't connect to any server only local play.

I stayed up till 3:00 in the morning and I still can't solve the issue. However, now I have another. I uninstalled steam and reinstalled it and get the Missing Steam.dll error. So I downloaded it separately and copied and pasted it in the steam folder, launch steam and now get SteamUI.dll missing so I do the same and I still get SteamUI.dll missing.

I am extremely pissed and tired and if anyone has any ideas please post so I can look at them in the morning when I have rest...

Lots of googeling...
Disabled All Fire Walls
Uninstalled Norton
Cleaned Registry
Disabled Router Firewall and allowed all ports just in case
A few cmd commands


I think I might just do a Reformat tomorrow if you guys don't come up with anything.

I would say that sounds like a worm or the hard drive has bad sectors or its somehow corrupting the hard drive in some way.

1. I think you should figure out what brand the hard drive is, and then use the hard drive tools from the manufacturer's site to make sure it isn't faulty in some way.

2. Might be a worm so use different anti-virus programs to scan for them. Avast is free and many anti-virus companies have free trials. If its possible do a virus scan from a bootable disk with an updated virus signature database. I think Norton and Nod32 have this functionality but I might be mistaken.

If the hard drive has bad sectors, it would not be fixed with a reformat. But the worm will be cleaned from a reformat if its the culprit.
