Hi all!

I'm currently putting together the parts for a 1st build and wanted to get some feedback from the pro's here on the boards. I'm on a budget and am buying parts one or two at a time for affordability. I'm also not looking for the end all be all of rigs, just a decent step up from what I'm running now. Current comp is an eMachine socket 478 Celeron, 1Gb of PC2700 ram and a 128Mb Radeon 9250. So as you can see, I could go buy a really good PDA and have made an upgrade

Parts I've bought so far:

600W OCZ StealthXStream PSU
500 Gb Hitachi HDD (7200 RPM w/ 16Mb cache, SATAII)
20X Pioneer DVD Burner
All in One card reader
MSI ATI Radeon 4830, 512Mb GDDR3, 256 bit interface

Parts I'm considering (this is where the input would be handy)

Intel E8400 Wolfdale Core 2 Duo CPU (3.0 GHz)
ASUS P5Q-Pro Mobo (considering going a little more money to get 2nd PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot)
OCZ or G-Skill RAM, 4Gb at 1066, 2x2Gb
Raidmax Tornado case

Will be running Vista Home Premium 64-bit as OS.

Any insights or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Looks like it would do fine.

I have an SLI 939 board (lan party :p ), I thought "Hey, maybe Ill upgrade to dual in the future!"

..... but I'll never do it. My x850xt does just fine solo, If anything it'll end up seeing a single newer card rather than SLI. Budget gaming ftw ;)

I agree with mlee. GSkill FTW. Bang for your buck, have you looked at AMD?? :D You can pick up a Kuma for ~$50. Just a thought.

Congrats on the upgrade :toast:

Thanks to all so far!

Thanks to all who have anwered so far!

As far as the RAM, I was leaning G-Skill, so the advice here pretty much solidifies that plan.

That case that was suggested is nice but would set my build back a week or 2 saving up. Anyone know of something in the < $90US range that is reasonably attractive and gives good airflow?

Thanks again!
