ATI HDCP case/ Free 4650?

http://www.aticlassaction.com/

Saw this on another forum. Basically if you ever had a pure ATI (no off brand, including Sapphire) video card between 9800 serious up to x1900 series (and all in between), and can prove it with a invoice, you get a 4650.

If needed I can post more details, but I believe alot of them are in that link.

Dang, just missed with the 1950 pro I had. Though, I've long lost any proof that I bought it. Still would have been nice to get a free card though.

Damn I purchased an ATI X850 Pro AGP from them back between March and August of 2006, off of shop.ati.com, but it says they don't have an account linked th my e-mail address though I have a verifacation e-mail for signing up there dated 3/17/2006, when I try to login under what I try to remember I get this, I do remember I didn't get the card right away...I got another one for a buddy later on because of the big clearance they had on x800xl's and x850pro's:

No accounts were found for this email address and password.

I did try to hook it up to a buddies' flat screen w/hdcp, and was planning on getting one till I couldn't hook it up. I didn't mind, went with a decent CRT monitor for way cheaper at the time. Wouldn't mind having a spare card, but dunno if i have the card anymore...it got burned up in an agp build my sister had...the board fried and took the card with it...

EDIT: Continued the filing form, and found this option:

I purchased my card online from shop.ati.com and no longer have proof of my purchase. Click the 'Next Step' button, below to continue filing your claim.

shop.ati.com said it sent me an e-mail hint of my password so I'm still awaiting that in hopes of getting my account info, but it seems as if that's all gone but the main page. Can't believe I don't have a reciept in e-mail...but it's been so long I don't remember if they would've sent one...I have every other reciept since 2004 saved...here's to hoping. I do miss that x850 though, came here got Dolf's CD boot utility to flash it to an x850 xt pe, and gamed like a mofo on that card!

ok but at the bottom of that page it says, If the Court approves the proposed settlement, you may be eligible to receive a new ATI graphics card. so that means their out of court settlement doesnt apply because theyve allready entered into a case action lawsuit

My X1800, X800, and 9800 series were all sapphire, but I fail to see the point in litigation currently. I would rather sue ATI for the lack of the AVIVO features in my current cards.

I don't think you have to give back the old card. What would ATI do with a whole bunch of used 9800 Pro AGP cards.

While a link was provided in the first post I'd like to point something out before everyone starts counting their 4650 cards. We only get 4650 cards if 55,000 or less people qualify for this. If more than 55,000, but less than 71,501 people qualify we get 2400 256MB cards. If more than 71,500 then we each get a piece of $3,000,000.00. Just to save everyone the math 3 million divided by 71,501 = 41.95 which is the max amount of money we would get. If more people qualify your piece goes down. Also, I'm not sure just how soon this might actually happen. There is a settlement hearing on August 31, 2009. If the court approves the settlement there may be appeals. The appeals could take a year or more. Then once every thing is approved it could take another 150 days for you to get your card. So, probably best case we're not getting a 4650 till late this year or early next year. I filed a while back for some Seagate litigation on the 1024 vs 1000 hard drive stuff and never got anything. I'm not sure if it got lost in the mail, they didn't like my documentation, or if it got appealed and some day I might get a check in the mail.

I already filed for my ATI 9800 Pro AIW card. That one I bought from Newegg so it was easy to find the invoice. I also have a regular 9800 Pro card, but that didn't come from Newegg. But, I hadn't thought of Crossfire, so maybe it's worth trying to find the receipt for that card. Of course with my luck filing that card would probably end up being the 55,001st claim and would make the settlement a 2400 card instead.

Sounds like a lot of work for either a possible 41.95 or a lower end graphics card....but it was nice of you to make people aware of this issue. I wish you luck and who knows, someday you may end up with a new card and 40 bucks & change.

Isn't this going to heart AMD\ATI ?.. Like if they have to come up with like 1 million cards for people for free isn't that some thing the company don't need right now ?.

Sounds like a lot of work for either a possible 41.95 or a lower end graphics card....but it was nice of you to make people aware of this issue. I wish you luck and who knows, someday you may end up with a new card and 40 bucks & change.

*+*+

It really wasn't all that much work. I had to look through a bunch of my old Newegg purchases online till I found the one for my 9800 AIW. Then I printed it off and scanned it back in as a file. For this one you can file online. So, I filled out a couple of web pages and attached the files and I was done.

The Seagate one was way more work. I had to print everything off and fill it out. Then there were like 8 pages I had to mail and I was sure one stamp wouldn't cover it so I ended up taking it to the post office to mail it.

I agree the cards aren't worth a whole ton of money, but I figured they would make a good card for testing if I had a video card go out and I wanted to make sure it was the card and not the motherboard.

Of course it's not a good thing for AMD\ATI, but my guess is it's pretty much pocket change to them. If 55,000 people or less qualify they have to come up with that number of 4650 cards. If between 55,001 and 71,500 people qualify they have to come up with that number of 2400 cards. If more than 71,500 people qualify there are no cards involved. In that case they have to come up with 3 million dollars. That appears to be a fixed amount so the more people that qualify the less each person gets. The 4650's can't cost them all that much to produce. The 2400's I would imagine they would have a hard time selling right now, assuming they even have that many of them. If anything I'd wonder if the 2400's might be the most problematic. Who knows, they might have to do a special run of them to satisfy the lawsuit. But, no matter what I'm sure this will all be a tax write off.
