Ok guys, it's been a while since I did a major upgrade to my PC, and this is hopefully the first step. The whole plan is new motherboard, CPU, and vid card. I say that now because anything above what I currently have for graphics will be a bottleneck, but I think this is what I'm going to do first.
I'm thinking of 3 options:
1. GeForce GTX 260 core 216
2. GeForce GTX 275
3. Radeon HD 4890

That will be coming from what I have listed, eventually up to a new board with at least a Phenom II 940.

The price for those 3 is pretty close, but it cannot go above $250.
Thanks.

I think a 4890 will be a better choice. Overclocks like hell and has DX10.1

Yeah but it's also the most expensive. I'm kind of tight on money right now. My buddy is giving me $120 for my 9800 GTX. I'm leaning towards the HD 4890 too.....

HD 4890's are absolute beasts. Most of them do 950-1000mhz, my dads got three and they all do at least 1000mhz with enough voltage.

So basically what you guys are saying is...4890 right? I just haven't been to the Red team since my 7900 GT served me so well...I guess it's now or never eh?

4890 vote here too.. With CCC overclocking the card and GPUTool for fan control it's sweet. And same here with a little extra voltage mine can hit 1k for the core.

275 and 4890 seem to have similar gaming performance, so just go with the cheaper deal...

Next gen cards will certainly be more expensive, which is out of the question for me. After paying $400 my 8800 GTS 640 and then getting this 9800 GTX for $200 only a year later, I told myself I'd never go much above $200 for a card again. I'm not an enthusiast who needs bleeding edge hardware. Besides, my friend is offering me a really good deal for my 9800, which is allowing me to get a new card in the first place.

Yes you can but it's lame.. At least with GPU Tool you can use auto Variable speeds. So if your idle temp is 55c you can set it 40% fan speed. You can get it how ever you wish if it's a slow increase or fact increase as temps get higher.
You should check it out again as the fan control you have is hell loads better than a fixed fan speed in CCC.

Wait just a tad little bit longer PB. You should see ATi cards coming down in price a little bit more.
