The 9600gt is close to the performance of a 9800gt when overclocked? I just don't see how since the 9800gt has 48 more shaders.

9600GT's are damn good clockers, my old Palit with a quick vmod and an AC S1 could hit 875/2200 gpu/shaders (would go to 800/1950 on stock voltage), I left the mem at a light 100MHz OC at 1100...that's from a stock of 650/1750 iirc. They're not that far behind, until you crank up AA and resolutions, then obviously the 8800/9800 will shine through more...but those g94's are sweet little chips for sure.

SPEED-
Part X: 50
Part y: 110

Overclock Speed X by 50.
Part x is now: 100.

Most times things do get closer to the higher up cards.

But you can still overclock Part Y

9600's can come close, but they wont match a 9800.

Dont forget that for every bit you can OC a 9600, you can OC a 9800 too - easy BIOS volt mods let my 8800GT do 750 core, and at those speeds it was faster than my GTX.

I tried voltmodding my 9800GT's bios but it didn't work. Every time I ask about it nobody seems to want to tell me how to do it properly.

No, but when overclocked the 9600gt can come close to the performance of an 8800GT at stock. The 8800GT pulls away by a large margin once it's overclocked.

no they don't, if you overclock a 8800GT/9800GT to around 720 its really hard for a 9600GT to keep up, and if your running a cuda or folding app, the 9600GT cannot keep up period vs a stock 8800GT, it would have to be overclocked to nearly 900 mhz and if you overclocked the 8800GT then it wouldn't ever catch up.
